Piggybacking off an earlier post I made now that I'm planning to time trial a half soon.
I'm a 22 year-old male with five marathons under my belt, and have been running 90-100 miles per week every week of 2020 (with three 70+ down weeks) with the goal of racing a spring half or full.
In mid-April, I spontaneously decided to participate in the Demoor Global Running virtual race series marathon. Literally, I woke up and decided to run it the morning of. I would not recommend this approach.
I was completely untapered at the tail end of a 107 mile week featuring two hard workouts, including a 10 x 800m workout and a hard tempo. I was also wearing non-racing shoes (ASICS EvoRide, of all things) and running totally solo in some pretty windy conditions.
I ended up with a 2:36:38 moving time with three 20 second gel stops. Solid 1:18:15 through the half, felt pretty meh until 20, and then decided to keep it together for the last 10K. Minus the miles with the stops, every mile was between 5:56 and 6:04, so my pacing was fairly even.
So, my question for the more experienced runners on here: based on the host of non-ideal conditions behind this time trial, what do you think I could theoretically run in an upcoming Half Marathon time trial, if I actually taper and prepare correctly? I would also have a pacer who has run a 66-minute half in the recent past.
