It's called FIP in cats. Has been around for a long time. It swept through the shelter that I used to volunteer at. It is the reason I don't volunteer there anymore. About 35 dead cats in just a couple of months. They would be fine and playing, and then 24 hours later they would be dead. It came on quick and was brutal. I loved volunteering there, but this wore me down. It took out all of the older, sickly cats, but it would also take out younger, seemingly healthy cats at random. A litter of kittens would all die, or just a couple. Lots of vets were involved, and no one could figure out how to contain it. I hope to hell COVID 19 does not mutate into something like that this fall. It will be a friggin mess.

I’ve traveled the world and seen many kitties spread, but not once was I concerned about Covid-19.
And, by the way, I've seen the lives of several cats in my day. Don't joke about cats being put to sleep....
One cat lived from 1988-2005 after being rescued by my mom's co-worker on the freeway (i was 14 in 1988)
One cat I rescued from a tree while I wore pot holders for protection (she was with us from 1992-2001). Having been an outdoor cat before, she died of FIV in 2001.
The third cat lived his last 10 years happily with me and died at the age of 18 years, 2 months of lymphosarcoma.
All were put to sleep. It's not a game, dude

You won't catch covid19 from a cat outdoors unless you are french kissing it. It may be possible that humans and cats who live together in the same house pass it to each other, but there is probably zero risk that anyone is going to get it from a cat that they encounter outdoors.
