I was walking around town last weekend when I saw a kid wearing Asics Gel Lyte IIIs. These are sentimental favorites from high school so I bought 3 pairs.
Based on the price these shoes better have the exact same specs as the ones I bought in 1990, if not better, but can anyone confirm this?
My old ass can still handle 65 mpw, pretty much. I'm hoping the shoes can too.
Be careful! I can't speak to what Asics does but, I do know that when Nike made "retro" styles from the 80's and 90's, they were built as lifestyle replicas. The midsoles are not the same and the shoes are intended to be fashion products, not daily trainers.
The Gel Lyte III was my go to trainer back in the day. A great shoe at that time.
They have been reissued as athleisure/sportstyle shoes and are not meant for running
What a great trainer! I've tried many replicas/retros and the consistent thing is the midsole is not the same density along with the upper being too thick resulting in the two being like running in a cross trainer.
Have you looked at the Asics Lyteracer 2? MSRP$80- I think it's very underrated. Definitely a Japanese heritage

Alright, Asics customer support confirms these are dumbed down versions of the original.
NBD I'll return a 2 pairs and keep the remainder for when I want to look casually fly.
@Adivector thanks for the recommendation. I've used NB Vazee Prisms for years, but need to move on. I am going to give your recommendation a try to see how it goes.
