JD Vance clearly has no soul, and I'm not defending him. However, the criticism of him has been bothering me a bit for reasons that have nothing to do with him.
1) That he's not "polished." I think that the Mt. Dew thing might be a good example of that. In an actually mature country, we'd worry not a bit about "polish." What are your ideas? Is your character at least passable? Do you lie, or not? F*** polish. We have plenty of shamelessly ambitious, blowhard, characterless, ineffective politicians with "polish."
2) The cartoon above - and the commentary - obviously suggests that he's some lesser version of Trump. That's both not true, and impossible. Trump is "THE LEAST" politician one could ever get. They've lost possibly their biggest weapon which was Biden's age. Now, they seem to want to turn towards criticizing policy issues when Trump has never run on policy and he has stepped knee deep into the crazy old guy role. Harris is much more likely to take advantage of Trump's lunacy as she's far quicker on her feet than Biden is/was and she doesn't appear afraid to go back at Trump.

Trump has two excellent campaign people this go around. But they have a terrible client that does not listen and thinks he is smart.
The problem is that Trump only prepared for sleepy joe for 3-1/2 years. Trump is not a quick study. And he is too old to teach anything new.
He has nothing on Harris except racist tropes. But he is being told not to do go down that road with her because he is trying to win middle of the road voters.
