I wasn’t even considering distance. Everyone else is gone. There was another distance coach who they let go. Basically they are only keeping one distance coach. Not a good look only having one distance coach moving forward. A Olympic sprinter head coach who is going to treat distance like they do at USC. UCLA cross country was bad before and now it’s literally non existent.

FSU should be happening this week.
UCLA’s men’s top distance runner Michael Mireles went in the portal right after track and is transferring. I’ve heard rumors of a few places. Anyone know where he landed ?

Having 35-45 athletes , men and women , recruiting, coaching three season into much of you actually care and out work into it. Impossible to be good that way
Managing around 40 athletes men and women, through XC, Indoor and outdoor, with mid distance and long distance disciplines is a lot to handle. It is wise to have at least an assistant
Matt Kane is already a crap show at FSU. How do you justify getting rid of one of the best jump coaches in the NCAA . I hope a big Sec school like Arkansas picks him up . Coach Levan sands had the most productive season out of every coach on that coaching staff. The man group scored 22 points in the Lj at the Acc Conference meet . The man scored 23 points in the triple jump and scored 45 points at the conference meet.He had two guys make it to nationals in the triple jump, and 3 guys qualify to nationals. Two guys scored at nationals. You coach a walk on kid to a runner up at nationals and have him become Olympic trials champion. How do you get rid of a coach after a year like that.
Why would he do that? Where will he make up those points from . Definitely something they such reconsider if they want to win championships in the future . Not many jump coaches in the NCAA are doing those things. They have to step it up in the throws, Distance and sprints in order to be dominant again like they were in 2007. The throws was disappointing this year. I don’t think a single person qualified to the national meet or scored at conference. The sprint group on the mens side was disappointing as well. Matt Kane did a good job for the women’s sprints and men’s hurdles .He should take over the whole sprint program. Not a single sprinter made it to nationals on the mens side . Definitely had a history of talented guys, but not having a single one make it is disappointing . The mid distance had a history of talented guys but never lived up to the expectations. They always had one good guy who can score like David Mullarkey this year.
FSU doesn’t care about winning. They care about making the least inexpensive decisions possible.
1. Kane is an internal hire, meaning not having to pay any type of buyout, no relocation fees, and probably no signing bonus.
2. Bob said it himself on the way out, “I hope admin reinvests back into this program”
3. Look at the posted FSU salaries on the internet. PATHETIC.
Despite the brand that FSU posses, they are not a “rich school” by any standard. Remember that Jimbo Fisher “left” because he said FSU didn’t have the money to consistently compete with the big boys. And all that nonsense with FSU being left out of the playoff, that was about FSU lacking the big money boosters and politicians that is necessary to get a leg up in the political college athletics landscape.
I say all this to make this point:
No one outside the posters on LR, Matt Kane, and maybe the student athletes care if FSU is successful in track or cross. The admin made a quick easy hire, and are back in to their meetings with their lawyers over exiting the ACC.
And don’t get me wrong, I wish Kane and all of FSU the best (and think they will do well by conference standards), but don’t think for a minute that this program is getting an influx of budget dollars to return to the FSU of the past
Florida State is willing to implode the ACC in order to get more money to throw at football. It shows why the SEC as well as other P4 conferences are not interested in them.
