Just heard from a coach out west that Sac State has had some interest in their X-C job from a few reputable and very experienced people, unfortunately the school (AD/Director of X-C and TNF) hasn't replied or reached out to them. Doesn't seem like a priority. Oh well.
Schools just don't seem to understand the importance of a good offseason for distance runners unless they have coached them before.
This is laughable. You make it seem as if a good offseason isn’t important for every discipline. Distance is not special in that regard.
I got no names but… For revenue sports Whitman usually has some candidates in mind and moves quickly. When it comes to non revenues I’m not sure he doesn’t wait for the job to get posted and see what resumes come in. He spends big on coaches for revenue sports but for the non revenues I don’t think he’ll break the bank. The department is in the red from the covid year and ongoing poor football attendance. And I don’t believe preseason FB ticket sales for this year have been that good. I’d say he does what he did with women’s volleyball and finds an assistant from a top program. Also shopping for a men’s gymnastics coach at the moment too. He’s pretty unpredictable so just a guess on my part.
Horn no longer listed on Wake Forest site. Where’s he going?
Speculation, but could he be the one filling the jumps/multis opening at Iowa? Heard they didn't retain the interim guy they had there. I'm sure he'll land on his feet though, I believe that was his first coaching gig and his athletes consistently set PBs and performed well in the postseason. Horn makes sense moving back to his Midwest roots, and I doubt it's a great situation at Wake Forest where all the resources are invested in distance.
