A lot of van driving??? I think 99% of college xc and track coaches do a lot of van driving!!!

The Western Illinois XC job two years ago was going to pay like $38k. I think you will find that a lot of salaries right now that are being offered in our sport are a little smaller than they were 2-3 years ago bc of covid.
Medrano is out. Kind of odd after a 16th place finish in 2018, all of EKU’s top runners have slowly transferred out since. Senard back to France, Schyns to Butler, Rop to Iowa State, and Kirk to Portland. The men lost OVCs for the first time in in years this past fall. As of lately, I’ve even heard rumors of James Sugira and a huge chunk of the women’s team being on the portal. As someone in the OVC who’s been watching from a distance, it seems like something is in the water over in Richmond, Kentucky. Anyone know what’s going on?
Things I have noticed this year in jobhunt:
1. PA has by far the most xc and track openings than any other state!
2. Schools are def trending towards having two head coaches. One for XC and one for track. Esp DII and DIII.
3. More and more women are getting head coaching jobs. Some qualified and some not.
4. A DI school will hire someone who ran D1 or was a volunteer assistant at a D1 school for a year or two over someone with 15-25 years of college coaching experience. Makes no sense.
First thing - EKU is now out of the OVC. They have officially moved to the Atlantic Sun. A break of a long tradition. Not sure if this is a factor, but it could be a sign of changes within the athletic department.

Very large team. Rarely to never take buses. Even the HC’s wife drove a van to their conference meet.
It's a shame to see Tito out. He was let go from coaching the men's team last year. They have only fallen apart since. Absolutely no team culture anymore. He did a great job with the women's program and developed a tight knit group that ran well under him. Very passionate and knowledgable coach. He'll find the right place where he has the opportunity to develop talent.
A school like Charlotte should be ashamed

It's insane how many schools are in the East coast/PA. Especially D3. I was a head coach for a D3 school there and you could literally throw a rock in any direction and would hit 2-3 schools. Makes recruiting a pain but also plenty of job opportunities if you don't like where you're at.
Aren’t many of those PA schools on the brink of closing? Saw lots of articles about a year ago about the state system there is losing students and many of the smaller state schools are close to closing. Maybe so many jobs open because the coaches know and jumped ship before it happens.
Also there are a shutload of openings for head coaches at small schools that are part-time. How the heck can you do anything as a part time head coach unless you are retired?

That could be it but at least in the area I was in our school and conference was pretty well funded. If you're closer to Philly/the coast I think that is not as big of an issue but that's just what I gathered from my time there.
The assistant coaching jobs thing is also very annoying. It was hard to find assistants willing to make the schedule work for that amount of pay. Half the time they could only show up to super early or late workouts and that was for those really dedicated and hoping to one day be hired on full time if the position opened up or get hired to work for the school in some other capacity.
You usually had to have a deep alumni base or someone who already worked for the school to get any meaningful assistants. Other than that you get them out there maybe twice a week if you're lucky and every other meet.
That’s what all you guys thought about Duke forever. How did they win they’re first ACC track championship?? Sprints, Multis and Jumps primarily.

Vanderbilt got 0 points at NCAA's this year, as well as a bunch of other teams. How do these people keep jobs?
