I was listening to the most recent Singletrack podcast the other day and they talk about how outside assistance is prohibited in these races except in specific circumstances (in an aid station or by a pacer during sections where that is allowed). They relayed an anecdote about Jeff Pelletier filming a subject and realizing that the athlete was going off course, but because he's aware of the rules and has integrity, he doesn't say a word about it. The point made by the podcasters was that a videographer shouldn't provide outside assistance as it would violate the letter and Spirit of the rules.
I had to laugh at about 5:15 into David's latest video from the Quadrock 50 miler when he and the videographer (presumably Cody Bare) are tag team navigating the course and trying to triage the course markings together. This isn't allowed under the letter or spirit of the rules. They left it in the video for us to see. The Quadrock race specifically prohibits this kind of conduct, and even if Cody was granted permission to film on course, he should have kept his mouth shut and David should have ignored him instead of trying to work together to navigate the race.
Par for the course for David and team, but disappointing nonetheless
