California shouldn't be auto rewarded for their stupid qualification system. Their 3 and 4 on the girls side are way back. No evidence they're any better than Texas schools or anyone else.
Nike should give Calofornia 2 bids max until they fix their system and actually compete for spots like the reat of the country.
How about you move your NXR South race a week before NXN and the state meet a week before that then the qualifier meet a week before that?
So we're doing the reasonable thing and you want us to change to match your plan?
Get with it. Your state coaches association needs to lobby for a week earlier and one less qualifier meet. If Texas can do it, so can California.
California CIF has to race 5 weeks straight. In case you don't know, CIF SS is brutal in terms of qualification. The CIF Finals race is more competitive than any other state race other than Utah, Colorado, and Texas.. Then you have to race state the next week.. and if your lucky nxn

Yeah, let's punish the teams, athletes and coaches because CIF puts them through a gauntlet that gives the qualifiers one week to recover for NXN. Under the present setup would you propose a separate NXR like all the other areas and have teams decide between going to state or to NXR? Yeah, that would go over like a lead balloon.
is Maya de Brouwer hurt? looks like she didnt run today. I know she locked up last week at the SS Final near the finish. did she actually get injured? poor kid. hopefully shell be ok for the FL west regional
Everyone agrees that the merge is the most unsatisfactory way of deciding NXN qualifiers but given the CIF schedule what else can they do? Who would have guessed that the last race- boys' d5 (smallest schools) would have produced the two fastest individual finishers and a team qualifier (Menlo) to boot? In all other areas teams just have to worry about beating other teams head to head. In CA, kids have to worry about making sure they push the pace hard enough to ward off competitors in other races. The boys' d 1 (largest schools) competitors must have forgotten about that because none of the teams or individuals were anywhere near qualifying times for NXN. What a screwed up scheme!
I actually did go to Oakdale, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. I did some quick (and probably inaccurate math), but we calculated that our top 5 drops an average of 33ish seconds from clovis/roughrider (depending on which we do) to state for the past 3 years. This also includes Omar Alsaidi, who ran the same time at both, as well as Jacob Cavanaugh, who was hurt all year. Those examples go to show Oakdale drops a lot of time when it matters, even counting injuries or crazy early season performances that are hard to improve on. This is likely a down year for Oakdale, coming off a 4th, 1st, and 2nd in the division, but that almost helps my metric since the younger/slower times have more room to grow. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them in the top 5, see them beat Ponderosa after losing at Sections, or even podium. This team is better than 2021 Oakdale, and that team managed 4th place.
Also, look out for Aden Cavanaugh in the next few years. Caleb was great and Jacob is good, but the 3rd times the charm with the Cavanaugh bloodline.
Welp. 5th in d3, top 3 under 15:45. Team was better than 2021, but so was the state. Next few years look good for Oakdale. Next year has
year after that will have 2 strong seniors, 1 strong junior, 1 strong sophomore, just need a 5th.
Also, 2024 Oakdale dropped a combined 113 seconds, for a 22.74 second average among the top 5 (from Clovis/roughrider to state) 2023 was 11.8 second average improvement, 2022 was 28.02 average improvement, 2021 was 43.55 seconds per top 5. Oakdale at the state meet should never be doubted
I’m just saying Campolindo, Vacaville, and San Clementine are looking pretty good next season. We all talk about Jesuit but forget that Vacaville has a young squad who’s got potential to do something special- just look at their Rough rider performance
A little biased, but my Alma mater girls team getting 3rd in their race after 6 years of not making podium as a team. My friend and former got 9th in DIII in 2022, but that’s only about it for the achievements. First time since the girls team was all state since 2004.

Yeah, they threw down today! Congrats on your school's performance! DM me if you still wanna talk about running on the side since you also seem to be passionate about running?
