The vast majority of people who are here illegally want nothing other than to work and support themselves and their families. To do that, they try to fly under the radar as much as possible.
The last thing in the world they want to do is draw the attention of the police/government by voting illegally, or doing anything illegal. That may be why the crime rate involving people here illegally is lower than the overall crime rate, despite FOX's best efforts to convince people otherwise.

I take your point and it’s a shell game. What was so off-putting about the “bi-partisan” border bill in the 9th inning after ignoring it for all of the game prior and exacerbating/encouraging the problem was the Israel/Ukraine “pork” funding in addition to the toothlessness of the bill. That’s why it got shot down, and I’m glad it got shot down. Congress and the executive branch not having any accountability to the American people and willy nilly spending borrowed money is getting really old and represents the true “existential” threat.

The parts of the bill that provided aid to Israel and Ukraine were never the problem. In fact, after Trump shot the border bill down, Congress passed a bill providing the very same aid to Israel and Ukraine that was in the border bill.
Although the bill may not have been perfect, it was not toothless. It allowed for shutting the border under certain circumstances. It would have imposed "the most significant changes in U.S. immigration and border security in decades." It was described by Senator Lankford (R - OK) as the most conservative border security bill in 4 decades. The head of the union representing Border Patrol agents strongly endorsed the bill.
If Trump was President when that border bill was negotiated it, he would have signed it in a second, and then claimed all the credit for securing the border. But he put politics before the good of the country.
I’m not saying it wouldn’t have helped Biden politically and not Trump, and that’s why it got scuttled.
What I would ask though is do you think Biden should’ve gotten a win for it (I already know the answer as you posted a CNN piece)? Because I sure as hell don’t. I think it should be a massive egg-on-his-face liability after he undid almost every single one of Trump’s executive orders and very publicly bragged about it, while encouraging and exacerbating the problem for three long years until it actually became a political liability.
Biden should pay a price for it, because drugs, crime, inundating our taxpayer funded services, and eventually Democratizing the would-be Democratic voters who are beholden to the party that enabled them is an *existential* threat to Democracy. Sorry dude, there’s no getting around that.
Sure, Israel and Ukraine get funding anyway (again, is flying Zelensky to PA a mere week ago or so w taxpayer funds so he can denigrate Vance and Trump impeachable?), but make it a standalone bill. This isn’t hard to do. You know, actually create transparency so that the public constituency can hold their elected servants accountable.
Most conservative border bill in four decades is relativism and not saying much. Relative to what? We don’t need Congressional action to all but shut the border. The president can act unilaterally. So, who’s playing politics? I would argue Biden was at our expense. Congressional action is reserved for what to do with the massive and growing problem we’ve spent a couple decades, but especially the last four years, creating.

ICE does not know how many are currently incarcerated.
It is unknown how many of these entered the country under Trump, or during previous administrations.
We also don't know how many have crossed this year, after Trump instructed Johnson to leave the border open to help him politically.
