Alan Dershowitz on defending Trump: 'My liberal friends don't invite me to dinner anymore'
by Caitlin Yilek | Dec 27, 2017, 10:09 AM
Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz says he’s feeling the heat from family and friends over his defense of President Trump amid special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
“It’s caused me to lose seven pounds,” Dershowitz told Politico. “My liberal friends don’t invite me to dinner anymore.”
Dershowitz often appears on Fox News to argue against Mueller bringing an obstruction of justice charge against Trump, saying it would send the country into a constitutional crisis. He has also defended Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey.
“My really, really close friends say, ‘You’re 100 percent right in your analysis, but can’t you just shut the f—k up and not talk at all,’” he said. “They tell me, ‘This is a time for selective silence.’ My nephew thinks I’m helping keep in office one of the greatest dangers in American history. I tell him I’m just standing up for principle. He tells me that I don’t have to stand up so loud.”
Dershowitz added that his family is no longer proud to be associated with him.
“I was a source of pride to my kids, my grandkids,” he said. “Now it’s ‘Oy, he’s related to Alan Dershowitz.’ That hurts me a little bit.”
Yet Dershowitz said he’s “happy with the role I’m playing.”
“I think I’ve changed the debate on the subject of obstruction of justice,” he said.
That's one. One Democrat/liberal in a position of authority willing to challenge this political witch hunt against Trump and stand on principles to say what needs to be said, and he's paying the price. Deviation from liberal dogma is punished by excommunication from Party, friends, and family.
I've had my antenna up looking for these, and Alan has been the only one.
In the entire country, only one Democrat standing on principles. That's how bad it is. The monster has eaten almost the entirety of the Democrat Party. This is incredibly dangerous.
That's because even though he's a liberal and does not like Trump, what he's saying does not fit the liberal narrative. He's a traitor to the cause.

I'm sure there will be some armchair wannabe constitutional lawyers on here however, who will argue just the opposite of what Dershowitz contends ...........and with no training in law except what they read on Wikipedia or in the comic books.

You keep asking "What crime?".
We keep listing the crimes.
You never deny that the godless Trump committed those crimes.
I think Disco music causes willful blindness.
And if it true that he committed those crimes, why isn't he in jail or been at least charged?
What is everyone waiting for? He can still be removed from office for those crimes. And the investigation into more crimes can continue.

You keep listing accusations of crimes without solid evidence. Hoping that Trump is guilty of crimes is not the same as proving that Trump is guilty.
We do list evidence. You just don't want to see it.
Willful blindness.

Using "godless" with Trump actually undercuts your point somewhat--you know, given that nonbelievers commit crimes at a far lower rate than average.

If you are going to indict the president and his staff, you better do a thorough, exhaustive investigation and get all your ducks in a row. That takes lots and lots of time.
A few years ago, I was involved in a simple negligent construction lawsuit that lasted longer than this. And that one never even made it to trial. The builder ended up buying our house back. That took almost two years.
There is nothing quick about our legal system.

Dershowitz apparently does not see any as per posted interview above. What are you seeing that he does not? Are you a constitutional lawyer with a higher level of education and/or experience then he, or that has access to info that he does not?

But if there is all this evidence and clear cut crimes have been committed then why not remove him now. From you guys it sounds as though the evidence is well known. Charge him with those obvious crimes and continue with the investigation to find out everything.

My point in calling him "godless" is not about crime per se. It is a shout out to Christians who think Trump is on their side. You'd be hard pressed to invent a man who epitomizes the sinful life more than Donald Trump.
Christians need to remember the words of Matthew 5:15-20
15“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
I've never heard anyone argue that Trump is a good, godly man. Therefore, he should be recognized by his fruit, which comes from the bad tree of his dark soul.

Because everyone deserves their day in court and it takes a long time to get there.

He is the leader of the free world. He has his finger on the button.
Why not remove him now if the evidence is so clear and the charges so blatant? Just think of the damage he could do if not removed now. Charge him with the crimes he has committed.

Remember the big independent council investigation that dug deep into the details of the Uranium One scandal to find out if any wrongdoing occurred? Oh, that's right. No independent council was appointed, and even if it had been it probably would have been staffed with hard core Clinton donors like the Trump/Russia council was.
It is very clear now that the Clintons' activities have never been thoroughly investigated, and that any potential crimes have been ignored. The FBI is corrupt.
Although Don Jr's wife is ok, thelevel of hate against Trump & his family is completely out of control. The hatred has gone too far.

Show me where he has made a legal determination encompassing all the investigative evidence gathered by Mueller. He has simply been saying that this is a witch hunt. Unless he is a mind reader, he has no idea what evidence will be uncovered and in what criminal category that evidence might fall in. So without holding any evidence, Dershowitz is talking into the wind.

His Trump Foundation is fraudulent to the point it is no longer allowed to operate as a charity and will be disbanded after investigations of it are complete. You seriously can not think that Trump is guilty of the things he is being accused of...
This will all come out.
Obstruction of justice
Money laundering
Perjury (if he ever talks to Mueller)
Conspiracy (likely he did this, but the least likely of the four to stick)
Sexual abuse -- this is likely also not to stick, but it is crazy to think that all of the 19 women accusing him of this are lying, especially since he has already admitted to this type of behavior and has said things that are demeaning to women in interviews.
Dude is a criminal.
Mueller is coming.
The clown is done.
Let me guess... you are 100% certain that he has committed a crime, right? Or if he hasn't, he will! Can we get a Flagpolean guarantee on that?
Yes, I am 100% certain that he has committed a crime. I am NOT 100% certain that he will face punishment for those crimes, however...could be plea bargain, pardon from Pence or someone else, or some other legal maneuvering, but I am 100% certain he has committed a crime or more likely crimes.

If you believe the Democrat narrative and you think Trump is the next Hitler and that Trump supporters are the new Nazi party, then you won't think it's gone far enough.

I agree this is wrong, but they can mostly thank Trump and little Donny for inviting that backlash. Public scrutiny is hard enough, but poking millions of people with a stick on a daily basis will result in more than scrutiny.

Wow...what a thing to buy. Trump is guilty as hell, so he slams the media who covers him in a negative fashion, then he slams the judges who might dare oppose him and then finally the FBI and the DOJ, and there are people out there with enough brain cells to take care of themselves who fall for it.
The FBI has historically been staffed by and is still staffed with conservatives, and yet somehow you believe that not only is the FBI corrupt but that they are so in favor of Hillary Clinton. And to be clear, you aren't saying one person or two people at the FBI are corrupt, you believe the FBI as an entity is corrupt and in favor of Hillary Clinton. Wow. Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson just had an orgasm.
