Being a woman and a proud feminist does not qualify you to be a moral arbiter regarding these types of situations. We can instead listen to the EXPERTS in the field, who just happened to write the publication linked above. In addition, they cite many psychiatrists, psychologists, and studies to support their conclusions.

You are welcome to do your own extensive research, find psychologists who would agree with you, and write an article to establish your own bona fides (beyond being a woman and a feminist) but until that point you have no credibility. Sorry.

I don’t think coaches should date athletes. But to make the leap to abuse only takes away from other valid points this program makes.

I also find it interesting that this completely downplays female-female relationships. Clearly these two women that wrote the article have not spent much time around field hockey and lacrosse programs.

They don't necessarily need to be thrown in jail but they certainly shouldn't be allowed to continue coaching.

And other genders are covered on the bottom of page 8 into page 9. It isn't downplayed, but the vast majority are male-female.

It seems like there are a total of three threads here: 1) jobs (too dry to carry a whole thread by itself); 2) speculation on who gets what job (subjective but fun as hell); and 3) elevating or tearing down the character of coach prospects (bordering on libel but more fun than 1 or 2). I think there is room for all 3 here.

So a 40 year old collegiate coach who has sexual relationships with 19 and 20 year old "consenting" athletes should get another chance. This is screwed up thinking. The 19 and 20 year old students (athletes) were not "mature" adults and certainly were in a power relationship that was not equal. Gosh, D2 female coach, you must be one of the ones he mesmerized.

I say all 3. Far more fun!

To the person that seems to be an expert on the study: exactly how many schools or sports have implemented that plan in it’s entirety? If that study is to be taken as Bible, which seems as though you are arguing, wouldn’t it be more of NCAA legislation by now?

Anyone know what’s happening at Ball State? That program seems to be on the rise now that the current head coach has had a few recruiting classes to build on. There was a time where that program was one of the best in the Midwest under Sue Parks.

You know what you are doing at the age 19 and 20!!!! The athlete is not that innocent. However, the coach should have NEVER dated the athlete.

What’s happening at UNC? Are they looking for a head coach and assistant or just head? What happened to VanAlstyne??

Honestly, I think the majority of the board does not like that he is the youngest guy to coach an NCAA champion in division I ever.

Again, I agree with an above poster about the fact that he probably left on his own terms if he met with the team. No one wants to miss paychecks, so the question is where is he coaching right now?

what happens if the coach is lets say 37 and the athlete is 21, and they start a relationship where they get engaged. Should you be able to fire a coach for being engaged to marry? What happens if they actually get married during her eligibility? Can you fire a guy for that?

It’s good to know that in 2018 women have come as far as they have. Apparently American women between the ages of 19-23 are so weak minded and fragile that any male in a position of the authority can convince them to have sex.

Why limit it to coach and athlete? Apparently the argument is that women are so easy to manipulate that any differential in power is too much for them to handle. Apparently anyone who has sex with one of their employees or understudies is guilty of abuse.

Wow. Great to see how far the independent woman has come.

Missing the point... It's not just athletics, it any college situation (or high school) where there are morality clauses against any faculty - student relationships. Faculty, instructor, coach, etc are not suppose to engage in affairs with students. After college, or while no longer a student, then that is up to consenting adults.
