That position at Western is for head track, not cross country/distance runners. The altitude and weather isn’t much of a benefit for other event groups
Well, there is an Assistant Coach for distance and Cross Country listed on staff at Western. This Head Coach position therefore looks to be a Director position. If the director at a university at 7700 feet doesn’t know how to allocate scholarships, recruit, and staff up for DISTANCE (and long jump), then they should not be working there. So even if the director is not the cross country coach, he/she would need to know enough about distance to get the program to capitalize on that thin mountain air. Every program has to play to their strengths and strategize around their limitations. (See also Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, NAU).

You don't know what you are talking about. Western isn't like other programs. They have and Head XC and a Head Track. They are equals. There is no director in Gunnison.
This is what I hate about this message board, its a bunch of people who have no idea what they are talking about fighting over things they dont know about. You might be the most knowledgeable person you are around everyday because you ran in college 30 years ago or you spent one season as a volunteer assistant HS coach, but here you are just spouting a bunch of nonsense that people have to waste their time scrolling past.
Please let the adults talk, and scroll the boards in silence.

I notice the northern states have many more coaching positions open than the south. Is that due to the weather or number of universities? Ohio in particular geez!
