I'm on the instagram I think? And a Roche video of him huffin' and puffin' on a track comes up? That's weird, 'cause I don't follow him. Which means he's made a reel and ad or somethin' -- I guess he ain't got enough attention.
Roche: the instagram is for goth girls and showing awesome pets. Not your sweaty nose bandage.
I would love for the Roches to address at least one thing that is rather salient: How can you go from last week’s podcast episode saying that, if you get up and go with Shania Twain after she sings “Let’s go, girls,” you’re a girl (full stop; and JK Rowling is objectively evil for wanting to protect biological women’s spaces), but then in the next episode you talk about potential metabolic differences between women and men?????
If you acknowledge there are differences, you cannot possibly say that self-identification is a fair playing field.
Probably because the Roches are some of those hyper Liberal entitled Boulderites that say they "believe in the science" and "trust the science" and then do an absolute 180 with any sort of logic and basic science and spout off more about their feelings and emotions instead:
"This week on the Some Work, All Play podcast, @meg_runs_happy and I celebrate the courage of swimmer Lia Thomas in a discussion driven by medicine, law, performance science, and ethics about the importance of trans athlete inclusion in sports. There is so much misinformation out there about her trajectory and the broader implications of her amazing national championship. We try to lovingly and openly discuss the facts..."
It's really some twisted logic. Takes some real mental gymnastics to pull off crap like this. David could probably even make a logical case to somehow justify PED doping using his world play!
Today David uploaded a Strava run on Mags. True to form be used his phone data for the activity to juice his pace relative to the actual distance he covered. He initially titled the activity something like "Tough internet boys hoping I get injured for WSER after a high volume week". I really wanted to comment and let him know that I'm quite sure his critics would prefer that he stay healthy so he can be properly put in his place by the competition, but I thought better of it.
Then I checked back and he had renamed the activity to some BS toxically positive cringe, in the process embarrassing a bunch of commenters who had responded to the original. His explanation was that he didn't want to contribute negativity to the world. Well which is it David? Are you running against the haters or with joy and love in your heart? This dude is such a faker and a joke.
If he's actually doing high volume instead of all that weird stuff, then he might impress us at Western States... If I were in his shoes (see what I did there) I'd go dark on social media, YouTube, podcasts and just rack up a bunch of volume with a sufficiently long run or race to prepare for 100 miles. A little bit of intensity around MLSS but that's it. Some lifting for durability.

I was struck by how anti-science their stance was in the early days of Imane Khelif at the Olympics. 100% unequivocally in support of Khelif and ignoring the substantial evidence of their eyes and ears. Implied it was all a witch hunt organised by JK Rowling. Zero accountability or apologies when the leaked medical reports confirmed what everyone with common sense had been saying all along.
Obviously they weren't the only people who were wrong about that situation but when you portray yourselves as 'the science people' and swear to everyone (with complete certainty and no suggestion that you could possibly be wrong) that black is indeed white and 2+2=5, it's a pretty big effing error. I'd at least expect a passing acknowledgement that they were wrong on this given women's sport and safety was compromised.

David has spent years cultivating his “love everyone” sensitive boy image, and now he wants to break away from it but realizes his brand depends on it. I would hate to spend a day in his brain, it must be quite exhausting living a lie when you have branded yourself as the king of authenticity.

How did we miss this gem? The coffee club giving charlatan Roche more of a platform...say it ain't so!
David could have gone and done the Canyons 100K or at least the Canyons 50K to gain some experience on the Western States course and face elite competition. Instead he shows up at these couple of Podunk races with no competition and beats the field by hours.
You know what happened when he faced elite competition at the Big Alta 50K? He not only got totally dog walked by that competition, he gave up/quit and made up some nonsense story about a sprained ankle as soon as he realized he didn't stand a prayer at a podium.
David is a fast runner and appears to be exceptionally fit. I usually like to root for guys who are competing at the top of these sports, but I hope gets served a slice of humble pie at Western States because he's just such an obnoxious little charlatan.

I took a look at David's post on Strava and agree that this appears to be a very solid effort. He ran an evenly paced race quite well and looked very in control.
That said, David didn't exactly have real competition: the 2nd and 3rd place finishers have road marathon PRs of 2:58 and 2:41. Not exactly OTQ runners.
David finished this race almost an hour ahead of both those guys and he appears to have run the race largely alone, being 5+ minutes ahead by the first aid station. So, his effort was a solid training run?
Sad he didn't pick a more competitive race to run like Canyons -- I am actually interested to see how he does against sponsored athletes (as opposed to Fort Collins's weekend trail warriors). I also understand that he, as a YouTuber, needs to narrative going for a long as possible. Suspense = attention = clicks = influencer opportunities & partnerships. (But, apparently, not shoe contracts...)
