Anyone else sensing that he may already be mailing it in for Western States? As in, David has now seen just how well the top contenders are running. He’s accomplished the “all eyes on me” goal with two video series, so now a top 10-15 finish will be perfectly fine.
I think David underestimated what it was going to take to win WSER. Adam would have beaten him by 5-10 minutes at Gorge Waterfalls Sunday. With so many top runners in peak shape right now, this year’s race is going to be one for the ages. There’s no ducking competition or hoping to line up against the elite B team.
I don’t understand though. David is capable of running 6 x 1 mile with 1 min rest at 5,000 feet in 4:36 to 4:24.
A runner who can do a workout like that should be in perfect shape to contend!

"Adam would have beaten him by 5-10 minutes at Gorge Waterfalls Sunday."
Only "5-10 minutes? Where did you come up with this seemingly random time estimate? That's an insult to Adam.
David probably would've been lucky to just to finish the Gorge Waterfalls 100k without spraining his ankle.
It's okay though, he can hide on his treadmill, fake track workouts without splits, and less competitive Strava segment "FKTS"
What's most interesting is how he had a 30-minute difference between the total elapsed time vs the run time. It looks like his heart rate data also tripped out about half way through? Running 67s on that kind of rest isn't out of his realm however.
It also does not point to "sub 4:00 Mile fitness" and "sub 14 for 5km fitness" at altitude either..
Better get those ankles ready for the steep canyons and high alpine running off of Palisades Tahoe!
Remember when David (err, I mean not David) was spamming this thread with Claude AI nonsense.
Funny coincidence that Claude is the AI model he defaults to in the latest podcast:
“Yeah. I mean, this podcast basically is vibes of just us enjoying talking to each other. So having excuses to talk about anything would be fun.
But then we've got Google as a third
Yeah.
I don't know.
Would you like Google or chat GPT? Bring Gemini into Google's AI system. Claude is a pretty sexy name. So Anthropics AI system is Claude.
Yeah. We should do it with Claude.
Do it with Claude?
Yeah. Okay.”

30 minutes of watch pausing during 100 minutes of work? Fake workout from a fake pro.
Yes, I am aware. That's why it caught my interest and I posted the link here.
Nice try. Whatever anyone may think of the workout, he ran exactly what he said.
Note to you MAGA mouthbreathers: you can look at the Strava segments to see if there were any time stoppages (i.e., if watch was stopped). There were none in the middle of Roche's 400s. There was a 20 min stop after the warmup and a few stops after he finished all of them.
Hmm, sounds suspiciously like a guy who changed his shoes and/or spoke to the camera before and after his workout. My god, what a terrible human being. No runner has ever done that! (Sarcasm alert since you guys have IQs of 75.)
I miss chatbot David. His defenses of himself were significantly more entertaining than ummm, no.
No chance that was Roche. Why would he bother? Apparently his podcast numbers are higher than ever. You morons are fighting a losing battle.
Plus my defenses are accurate. Literally have debunked every stupid, malicious claim on this thread.
I came back to the thread because his latest video today was about last year's bike accident and wanted to see what absurd claims were made. I'm a little disappointed that "that accident was faked!" or "he was barely scratched!" haven't been posted yet. You guys are slipping.

Man, i miss you. you should check in more often. you read a week's worth of stuff, pick some low hanging fruit, pat yourself on the back, and check out. But you're right, you've shown 100% that he could totally run a sub-4min mile if he wanted to. he took down a historic FKT recently in the boulder area (but don't check that segment now). he has the capacity to coach even more runners. He played college football - although he never actually had a position, he was huge, could bench press 225 for 12 reps, but that wasn't for him. he also won't race if he coaches due to conflict of interests, but wait, now it's okay. oh, and best way to track your running is the strava app on your phone....

and for what it's worth, i agree that it is almost certain that the rests were before/after the workout.

He said he was “launched 100 feet” when he was hit by the car. Did you ever take physics? That’s a delusional statement. But it gets him lots of sympathy. Oh and it make him look tough, and brave and… huzzah

I'd agree he did what he said, but I'd also argue it really isn't too impressive. We did a similar workout in similar times in college. There were quite a few guys (on a very average D1 cross team) that could do that workout.

Yeah I looked at it and it looks legit. But I also find it to be a weird workout and/or unimpressive.
Still generally flummoxed by his approach to Western States, which I'd summarize as "I don't believe I have the physical traits to be competitive even with perfectly executed training so I'm going to train incorrectly on purpose in the off chance that it's actually better." This is another one of those workouts.

Welcome back to our esteemed legal juris! I see your bait, so let me take it.
David's constant mining of his bike accident for content and sympathy is gross and off-putting. As I understand it, he suffered a concussion, a fractured wrist, and some bruising / soft tissue injuries. I do not doubt the trauma and pain he suffered from his crash. THAT SAID, his injuries were relatively minor -- David won Silver Rush less than 90 days later. Seriously injured athletes don't win 50 mile trail races.
Since the accident, David constantly brings it up to garner attention, sympathy, and as content for his social media accounts. Many runners, cyclists, and tri athletes have people close to them who were killed or maimed by a vehicle while working out. His constant reminders do not make me think he is "tough" or "more hungry" than his competition. It reminds me that David was fortunate and others were not.
I do not think David sees this distinction because he spends too much time thinking about his own narrative and content strategy. This makes me dislike David, and believe his exploitation of traumas, much like his "niceness", is performative and a curated social media strategy to garner attention and attract sponsors/ advertisers. Thus, I think he is fake, narcissistic, and more interesting to mock than take seriously.
Now, please insult me (or the collective we) with an ad hominem attack to make yourself feel clever.

Making a 1 year anniversary video about breaking your wrist is nothing short of outrageous.

AI answer with a few assumptions, e.g., 45 degree angle to maximize distance, which likely didn't happen, and ignores air resistence. And he was clear that it was 100 feet in the air, but again, he was just excited.
"An object launched at 25 mph at a 45° angle from ground level would travel about 41.76 feet horizontally (ignoring air resistance)."
