Waldron indicated in his press release that he's leaving to be closer to family in the northeast. They haven't announced anything yet. Not clear if either of their assistants are in a position to be promoted. Both look to be pretty fresh to the industry
Ah, the classic “racism is everywhere so that means we can’t highlight the racism in WV” defense. Nobody is saying that racism is exclusive to WV. It’s just not a great place to live if you’re not a good ole boy. Now back to jobs
Yeah, the current WVU staff of 3 women and a Canadian head coach agree. It’s a real ol’ boys club.
My mistake, there’s no racism in WV anymore because of the coaching staff at WVU. You got it. Back to jobs
While Haveman made $120k in 2022 I highly doubt the new distance coach is going to get that. You have a head coach who has no intention of investing in that event area. I can’t imagine you’re going to get a big-ish name to come try and score some conference points in a distance heavy conference with little to no scholarship money. That job isn’t paying $120k. He’s going to spend for coaches in event areas he cares about - not ones he doesn’t.
I'm always curious when I read these seemingly omniscient posts about program's scarcity of scholarship money.....how do you come about this assumed understanding? Do you have direct, insider knowledge? And is this head coach with your presumed "no interest" in certain groups on the record as saying such? By publicly available record, this program has $608k allotted to male scholarships and $985k allotted to female scholarships. That is enough to build a strong and balanced program, especially at a public school.
/TL;DR alert
All you armchair college coaches need to get with how student-athlete funding actually works. The term scholarship gets bandied about still, but the actual term is 'package' which does include athletic aid budget set forth by NCAA. As we all know, that aid budget is not able to support even half COA packages for a full T&F team, especially when equivalency is factored in. What to do?
Thus, several other funding sources come into play: academic awards, stipends and Alston money. That is the 'package' to get to COA. And now NIL. Some schools are working at directing NIL opportunities, mostly to attract and retain the superstars, as this money can be well above the COA for a school, and not violate NCAA rules.
And big ball sports programs mean bigger coffers to draw funds for the equivalency sports, like running. that is helpful when it costs well over $2M for fund aid packages, travel, lodging and entry fees for even a moderately successful full T&F team, and about 1/3 to 1/2 that for a XC program. Of course, that depends on what the COA is for the school, which is different for each institution.
I am with you on that, is there really a scarcity of money, however, I also see it from the other side too, sure, they are a Div. I program, at a school of 5-10K students, with football attendance of less than a 15,000-20,000 per game: no money. They work hard to just meet NCAA reg's to float the ball sport team that the 'big' alumni donors expect 30 years after they attended. When was the last time UNM filled the stadium for a game? The funding there is almost non-existent for the sports budget. Following where Franklin went to, Louisville's attendance averages 49,900 per game. Lot's of money. Any wonder why he decamped?
The funding pool goes both ways, depending how much the ball sports are bringing in. It sucks, however, it is the way it is. The follow on to this is that the bigger programs can direct as much money as they want and hand out as many full packages as they want too. It is totally arbitrary.

Dude WTF are you talking about?? You quoted a post about how Illinois directs their scholarships to certain event areas and started talking about how New Mexico can’t fill their football stadium.
I agree they are very respectful group for NAU. But let’s be re real…no one thinks of NAU as a sprint school. How many sprinters have they had over last 10 years at Nationals? Is that their only 2? Because if so then that’s why the comment was made
Who is Franklin going to hire for sprints at Louisville? Don’t see any job postings for Louisville.
I’ve heard Morrie Turner as a name to come up from Alabama State.
Seriously? Nothing to take away from this young man, he seems to have done an outstanding job this year. BUT has he ever had an individual at the NCAA championships? Has he produced women at the national level? There must be more qualified guys for this job. Like MILLER, big loss. Devin west a possible candidate? The guy from Coastal?

They had a 4x1 team at nats this year they came 5th in the country in only his second year there

That’s great to hear lol but is that enough for a power 5 position? 1 relay to a final? And JUCO? JUCO produces some of the best placed sprinters In the world. And coffeyville has been doing is well before his time I believe. This guy might be ready, and idk how good of a coach he might be but I’m certain there are better candidates at this time. Good luck to this young man and his future

He's at a SWAC school and it's year two dude relax.
The fact that he did that in two years should tell you a lot.
They also brought a 4x4 team to nats and had
10.10
20.5
46.07
Look at Coffeyville during and after his time. In an insane sprints league he developed kids that stood out. I don't think anyone deserves anything but he's defy earned his success instead of being handed it.

My point exactly two years of coaching at the d1 level. Again I’m not putting this young man down in anyway. I hope the best. But two years of experience and a few relays to a national meet isn’t popping out to me. Also these jobs require coaching both genders. Curious how’s the women's sprints been the last two years? I just see mens numbers.
It wasn’t to throw shade, imo(doesn’t matter) I believe there has to be better candidates. But if this guy gets it best of luck.

Why are we acting like Louisville is the equivalent to Florida or Texas? Louisville has only been in the P5 for 9 years. It isn’t some notorious, historical program. It’s still growing to that point. The sprint job was elevated under Tony Miller and Morrie Turner is someone who can continue that work. The Coffeyville presence recently is due to Turner. There are about 7-10 guys at various D1 programs who grew under him and his coaching protégés are the ones still keeping Coffeyville on that path. This is not even taking in to account his success at the D2 level at Rogers State.

Crazy how people on here will say if a person is "ready" or deserving of a position. If Morrie lands the position, he was the best fit for Franklin, the program and it's direction. Not everything is based solely on the slate of a black & white resume. P5 does not signal you can out coach every last coach at the HS, JUCO, NAIA, DII or DIII level.
Louisville has underperformed for a long time. Coach Miller brought spice back in the sprints, but Miller was apart of the old regime and staff. I wouldn't be surprised if a place like Kentucky is next for him.
