The EU, China, and Canada stood their ground. They are the biggest trading partners. Without them the US economy will be strained, at best. Trump backed down when challenged.
China may be the exception, but he has put unstoppable inflation into the US economy. It is there now and we will all feel it in a few weeks as shipments stay offshore or at the doc or get tariffs added to their cost.
This all could have been done by implementing a methodical plan that put the squeeze on trade imbalances, gave incentives for onshoring, encouraged investment in the US. Instead, Trump did what he always does: act without any plan based on his whim, then change course when it has unintended but predictable consequences.
Now he has alienated trade partners, caused instability in markets and supply chain, and caused unstoppable inflation.
