In their (light) defense, if someone had asked me three or more years ago (prior to me taking any real interest in running) what my half marathon time might be I'd have been lucky to predict it within 30 minutes. I ran a season of XC in high school, played soccer from a young age into my early twenties plus four years of HS lacrosse (coached by the assistant XC coach so we ran a lot), and have cycled on average a few thousand miles per year much of adult life. Now, I wouldn't be off by 3 three freaking hours but I do not even have an instagram account.

I do have a sister, a mother of five, who has run sub-2 for a half. I knew it was her goal for a little while but I had to ask her for her to even bring it up at our last family function, and we talk running quite a bit. She doesn't have an instagram account either.

She's cuter than the other girl, but honestly, I find the whole "look at how hot I am" act to be inherently low class and off-putting. I think I'd be more attracted to this woman if I saw her walking down the street dressed like a normal person and wearing a normal amount of makeup. Begging people to be attracted to you is unattractive. This kind of person is the reason the term "tryhard" was invented.

I guess I’d blame the photographer/stylist/whoever is making “creative” decisions here, but it’s so boring to see a girl try to look like Marilyn Monroe (talking face and hair here) but looks like yet another cheap blow up doll. The original was an attractive woman, very few people do a good job of making a woman look pretty trying to emulate her.

Besides that, that kitchen looks hideous and I can’t believe they couldn’t find better Christmas gift bags. I’m noticing all these things because she’s just not hot. We all could find at least one girl more attractive than this at any mediocre hipster dive bar or millennial club.

Don't think anyone is questioning whether she can run a 2 hour half. Probably not, but that's not the point. The 4 minute mile splits are. I think he's pointing out how outrageous it is.

oh i wasnt thinking that. I thought the original outrage was around the "2 hr half", and when she doubled down stating that she actually finished it and everything and that via distance =R/T and if we accept that the 6.7 mile split was accurate, that she must have run the pace you say in order to get to a 2 hr half, well in my humble opinion we just have a low-functioning math individual which isn't terribly surprising and also incredibly easy to test out of in a million other ways.

For instance, the GED math section. Post a passing score. Go to the whiteboard and explain/calculate velocity between two points given the known time it took to transit between them /etc

A 2 hour half would be about a 9:10 pace, give or take. Probably would have to run a little faster depending on how often you stop for selfies, visits to the powder room, etc.

on the vdot table, 7:45 mile is an equivalent performance. Ofc some people arent trained to the half distance/etc and so will fade considerably. But a 7:45 mile is indicative that the person is in ~sufficient shape for a sub-2 half

Sub 6 is a bit nethorworldish relatively. I get that she (nonchalantly) claimed that everything was legit/we're all haters/whateva-whateva I did a sub 2 half and all, and that if one accepts the splits it implies some ~4 flat miles basically throughout the back half. But thats ridiculous. I get that she's really proud of herself but I dont think she honestly thinks she could face a diamond league 1500 field and end up in the finals unless she's got the most severe combination of unrealistic expectations and narcissism I've ever heard of....

Yeah but people could do a better job on her face and hair. It looks like it was done by a 12 year old girl who got her first case of makeup from Claire’s and got permission to use grandma’s curling iron and Aquanet. They’ve done way better jobs on Marilyn Monroe themed photo shoots, like LiLo for starters and I don’t think she’s a 10 either.

OK. Thanks. I think I understand what you mean. I thought you meant 7:45 pace for the entire half. Someone who could run a 7:45 mile should be able to run a 2 hour marathon. That makes perfect sense.
