Is Shelby Houlihan dirty?

I am always happy seeing the fast shorter distance runners move up to the longer events. In 88, Flo-Jo running the final leg of the 4x400 was great. I always wanted to see 400m Jeremy Wariner give the 800 a serious try.

Shelby is great for the sport. Her leg turnover in the final straight is a thrill to watch.

So if you are focusing on how intersex have an advantage because of increased testosterone, then you seem to prove my point that drugs help you. If someone has the ability to inject themselves with more testosterone, then it will have a similar affect.

No, that's not right.

Men have a 10 to 15 percent advantage because they are men as defined by having one more more Y chromosomes at their birth, and the natural athletic advantages that come from having one or more Y chromosomes. One of these advantages is a much higher level of natural testosterone.

No XX woman can break a men's world record by being injected with a drug, and no man can improve by 10 to 15 percent by injection. Let's say Paula Radcliff's marathon record was done without drugs. Do you seriously think a woman by injection could run 10 percent faster, which would be a sub 2:02 marathon? Please don't make me laugh.

But plenty of Y chromosome men can run under 2:15 for a marathon. Thus XY men running in women's events is the biggest issue in present day athletics, perhaps in the history of athletics.

This gender issue is what we should be focusing on, and not so much on drugs, of which there has never been proven to be any significant advantage. Even if there was a slight advantage, which there isn't, it would pale compared to the 10 percent advantage gained by XY men at birth, which is what defines them as men - NOT WOMEN. Let's put a stop to these XY men, or intersexed men whatever you want to call them, from competing in women's events.

I agree with you. That's a feminist issue and the feminists are surprisingly quiet. While there's some grumbling from the professional female runners there should be more considering track is their livelihood.

But EPO and steroids do make a difference. They don't have to make someone faster just train harder, longer, and recover faster. It's a fact and was made clear during the many years coverage of Lance Armstrong's PED saga.

Houlihan isn't dirty but she looks muscular and cut and runs with a strong stride but there's a backstory behind it (including a mother who was a world class marathoner moved to Arizona while she ran for ASU, how she ended up at a second tier distance school like ASU, a blood disorder) and it boils down to a very talented American runner who has somehow entered her peak competitive years with a fresh mind and body.

You're right Tallon, that's my bad. I was thinking Primobolan and wrote Trenbolone. She looks like she's on a hardening steroid. What the competitors take the last weeks/days of their cycle to maintain the anabolic gains. It's been a while, so my recall is not the best, but you never forget that look. I'm not judging her character. I agree with others that the clean athletes eventually reach a point where they have to accept never being top 3, medalling, standing on that podium, or "level the playing field." I think ALL athletes, IN EVERY SPORT, should have to provide samples for testing and declare what they take. Governing agencies should set limits, and THE PENALTIES would be harder on the DOCTORS PRESCRIBING then the athletes themselves. In the case of the BALCO's, there would be criminal penalties, harder then what is out there today.

I'm just telling you as an experienced user what I see. Maybe she found a dietary supplement to burn off that extra 3 pounds of fat, provide more stamina, and give the neurogenic kick to bust the last 100m like she just took off from the starting line!
