well, in the arcade era, it was important to find a game that wouldn't kill-screen you if you got too good. Discs of Tron was one such game - difficulty maxed out and one quarter would last until you got bored and quit.
Early success in semi-3D graphics too. Not popular with arcade owners
Half Life was the best game of all time.

Baldur's Gate 3 might be the first crpg that can be in the conversation in decades. The developer, Larian, took what was good about the best rpgs in other genres, learned from the mistakes (weapon durability systems, unfair combat, etc) and applied them to a crpg. Its got the quest depth of the witcher, the party depth of mass effect - but with a lot more choices and consequential actions, and the combat of d&d.

I can't decide. It's a toss up between Kingdom Hearts II and the first Bayonetta.
I always decide based on replayability. It's between the original Resident Evil 4 or Resident Evil 4 Remake. Top notch gameplay, atmosphere, and action-adventure camp. Love it.

FF7 was a masterpiece in its own right but it built on what came before it. Also loved it.
Best Zelda game? I've played pretty much all. Ocarina was amazing obviously. I think I had more enjoyment with Majora's mask because it was harder/freakier but OOT was first for sure for N64 awesomeness. All the games have been amazing up to BOTW. I remember reading a review of OOT and the author was complaining about getting old and still saving zelda every f-ing time and same old same old. Yet I'm probably the same age and loved them all. Skyward sword might have been my favourite there. I really enjoyed uncovering the 'history' and obviously BOTW was incredible too.
Multiplayer - Goldeneye if you were of the right age was fantastic. Also first over the top 1st person shooter. Sure you had crazy weapons in doom etc but it was the genre. Goldeneye you could be launching rockets or shooting with the golden gun or paint gun for real. Was crazy fun. And we had sleepover parties staying up all night for that sh-t. What a blast.
Then in college we had unreal tournament. Also plenty of fun. Great time to have LAN type parties with everyone playing together - what a blast.
Also huge in the college days for us was Tony Hawk 1 and 2. Like who would have thought a skateboarding game could be a blast? yet whomever had a playstation in their dorm was king. Launched a whole genre of 'niche' sports games outside of Madden, MLB, NHL, FIFA games.
2 player fighting games? Streetfighter 2. That is still #1. I think the codes are basically pop culture now and I could still launch an energy blast if I picked it up. "I'm mucus!" IYKYK. Killer instinct, mortal kombat were fun but SF2 was the first mainstreamer to really make it amazing. Modern games are not the same, so I lost interest in them. The only thing I remain passionate about is gambling. Now I'm playing on JackpotCity, a review I read on the click site, so join me. Many people are afraid of gambling, but it is fun if you use a proven platform.
Yes! SF 2 is the best thing that happened to me during my college years. The feeling of nostalgia makes me come back from time to time and I can get lost in it for a few days. I'm totally on the same page as you.

I actually prefer Mario Kart from the original Super Nintendo. Yeah, the graphics were inferior, but the game-play was really sharp and endlessly fun.

GTA San Andreas gets my vote, although it’s outdated now
Honorable mention goes to Madden 04 with Michael Vick on the cover. He was stupid good in that game.
