VIPAM I ENJOY YOUR POST. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
DON'T LET THE NEGATIVITY ON THIS BOARD STOP YOU FROM POSTING HERE. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO THERE ARE ALWAYS GONNA BE LOOSERS WHO WANT TO CRITICIZE EVERYTHING THEY DO NOT AGREE WITH INSTEAD OF HAVING AN INTERESTING DIALOUG.
COLBY Thank You
As many have noticed I have decreased considerly the amount of posting in the last four-five days. The reason has nothing to do with other posters; however, when I get more free time I post more.
Kenenisa vs. Geb: if Geb is at his best as it seems he is in 2003, he will be Kenenisa is a super fast race or 400m and in kick; however, left to a moderate pace and Geb is in trouble (Kenenisa hasn't meet anyone who can match his surges in X-Country and track shouldn't be different). Geb most take Kenenisa out faster than he is comfortable or control the race/surges and possibly outkick Kenenisa.

Bekele hasn't done anything on the track yet, and if Geb is in top form there is no way Bekele could drop him, watch how he covers Tergat's move in 96, and you know what I doubt Bekele can make a break like that one. Thus far he has beaten on all the guys that Geb and Tergat did, but in XC the winning margins can be stretched out more than on the track. I think cross will be Bekele's best season, watch how easy he moves over the grass and the hills and around corners, his stride stays smooth. That is an asset in cross, on the track, well you're on a track that is irrelevant, still he is real fast, but his cross strength and finesse won't be as useful.

Good Points as usual; however, I simply think Kenenisa have the potential to have an OUTSTANDING track career (not as dominating as his x-country first two years) and has the potential to run extremely fast in the FUTURE. Well in the next few months SOME of the mystic about Kenenisa's track potential will be revealed. The Hengelo meet will be great but what about the 10000m on May 2 with Meb going for sub 27:13?

As you have probably read by now that Meb did not run on May 2. He will join Haile and Kenenisa at the Hengelo Gp meet June 1 and should post a sub 27:00 minute 10000m in 3rd, 4th, or 5th. It seems that only a few comprehend that an untouchable and dominate x-country runner can else adjust to become an excellent track runner. You don't win the long and short course two years in a row without speed and strength. Look for Worknesh to surprise and raise the level of her game also.

I agree. He may be able to bring what he demonstrated on the x-country course to the track. Hermens, Dr. Elstre and crew do a wonderful doping job with their charges, able to peak them at just the right time. Should be an interesting summer.
WOW! THIS IS SHAPING UP TO BE A GREAT RACE I'M GLAD THERE IS AN AMERICAN IN THE RACE. I WONDER IF HICHAM WILL STILL CHALLENGE BEKELE AT THE WORLDS. IT CAN BE VERY ITIMIDATING TO HICHAM IF BEKELE RUNS WELL AND SHOWS SOME SPEED. NO DISRESPECT TO HICHAM! I JUST HOPES HE KEEPS HIS WORD AND WE SEE A GREAT 5000M AT THE WORLDS.
The only way Hicham run the 5000m at the Worlds if he think he can beat Kenenisa and other top challengers in the 5000m! If Kenenisa performs extremely well before the Worlds, that will help Hicham to make up his mind!

Vipam I found out that Bekele did lose to Sihine at the Ethopian Championships proves only that the younger Ethopian was more prepared and probably tapered off more than Bekele. The main race for Bekele is Hengelo and the World Championships and I don't think S. Sihine will beat Bekele in the 10000m there. If Bekele does lose at both of the meets than he may take longer to equal his cross country accomplishments.

Yes, when it comes to cross country Kenenisa has been great but I don't think Kenenisa has no chance beating Haile on Track this summer. He will be a great track star with experience someday but right now Haile will be the star both in Hengelo and Paris. One thing for sure when it comes track workout no body can run with Haile that includes Kenenisa.
too much
What must always be remembered, is that on the track when the current world records have been set, there were always 2 or 3 athletes who capable of breaking the record ..
Tergat - Geb - Komen
were all at their peak at the right time ... and it was during this period that the records tumbled ...
Good competition provides good time ..
If Bekele is so awesome, who is there to provide the competition to motivate him further ..
Good competition is only a plus; however, not required to break World Records.
Kenenisa beats quality field including Haile Gebrselassie and Sileshi Sihine in the 10000m at Hengelo. Judging by the spilts Kenenisa only lead after he outkicked Geb and Sileshi-something I didn't like. Kenenisa did what Geb would do to anyone else follow them and outkick them at the end.
Hengelo 10000m-01 June 2003
1. Kenenisa Bekele (Eth) 26:53.70-(FASTEST DEBUT EVER)
2. Haile Gebrselassie (Eth) 26:54.48
3. Sileshi Sihine (Eth) 26:58.78
4. Gebre Gebremariam (Eth) 28:03.03
5. Richard Limo (Ken) 28:10.95
Now we know why he wanted to race Geb this year and defied his manager. STILL A GOOD RUN by Haile Gebrselassie. Sileshi was impressive also! Kenenisa is no longer just a X-Country runner as I have been saying for over a year now!

Vipam wrote:When Kenenisa ran 7:30.67 WJR as a 17 year old (few months shy of 18) the world know that he was very talented; however, in 2003 we may see the beginning of his dominance. In 2002 he became the first man to hold both long and short x-country titles EVER and he did it in the same meet against two talented fields. In the last month after recovering from an injury, Kenenisa have began again:1. winning his first x-country race in an easy romp2. blazing thru 1st kilo of Ekiden race in approx 2:28 and finishing in 13:07!3. destroy good field in Belgium most prestigous x-country race and winning by over 1 minute and 14 second over S.Lebed (Urk)*(*World X-Country silver in 2001)In 2002 many may not remember however as a teenager Kenenisa outkicked many kickers on the European circuit; therefore, he have a great kick. I don't think Hicham have a chance in the 5000m at all now! Kenenisa will force the pace and break Hicham before 3500m if Hicham even runs the World 5000m.Vipam
***Above piece was posted Dec 2002***
More predictions:
Tirnesh and Hillary Chenonge both still teenagers will be
VERY BIG major players in 2003 and especially 2004. They appeared on my Top Ten High Schoolers in the World List!
Hicham wouldn't/don't stand a chance in the 5000m against Bekele and he may not even run the 5000m because of Kenenisa victory over Geb in 10000m today .
Vipam
The 5000m and 10000m World Records are Kenenisa Bekele's whenever he wants them.
how easily you give up on Geb because he lost by ONE second in 10,000m race. Did you consider that maybe if Geb was sitting on Kenenisa's ass near the end, he coulda moved by?
Today is not Haile's day but he is not definitely out but I am just stunned by this. I have an Ethiopian National Runner who staying with me right now who was shocked by Kenenisa beating Haile. He told me this morning there is no way Kenenisa could beat Haile in Track meet.
People
Wake up! Haile is extremely fit and was capable of breaking the World Record if not for the conditions at Hengelo. The more Kenenisa proves himself the more doubters find reasons to discount his ability. Kenenisa, Haile, and Sileshi would all have run 26:20's if in favorable conditions and if the race had not become tactical (due to heat).
Kenenisa has the speed, stamina, and a wicked kick to beat just about anyone. He will lose; however, it will be a very rare feat. Many months ago I spoke of Kenenisa's speed 7:30.67 at 18 and his outsprinting 1500m types at the 2002 World X short course and noone listen. The young Ethopian is the real deal, so get used to him winning far more than he will lose!
Vipam
I am wake and Haile is a real deal as well. Let just wait and see their next race and Haile will show you and the world why he is the best. One thing for sure Kenenisa can win all the race he wants but he will never be Haile Gebreselasie.
