Congrats to gay and lesbians, the US government cannot deny your legitimate marriage

What we really need is for some leader of this country to legally establish a given fundamentalist Christian religion as our official state religion in order to prompt the moderate and blasé sector of society to respond vehemently against the government by voting out all the religious conservatives, and just get the country back to a-religious governance.

So when Jesus went into the temple and found all the monetary issues happening that were not appropriate, he then A) reached out to them with love and said "I support you doing what you wish to do, because that is your right" or B) kicked them all out because of their sinful nature

I hate this argument about animals displaying homosexual behavior as a reason to state that homosexuality is natural.1) Certain primates murder each other, so because they do it, is it natural and okay for us to do?2) When a female praying mantis mates and then kills the male, that is natural. Is that then okay for women to do that, because it is what happens in nature? 3) So, in the animal world, how many male animals have anal sex with other males, and do so for pleasure? What exactly is homosexual behavior in the animal kingdom? In humans, is a group of females dancing together on the dancefloor homosexual behavior? If two guy friends give each other a hug, is that homosexual behavior? Do a bunch of male animals actually have sexual intercourse through ejaculation with one another?4) Why do animals having this behavior make it legitimate for humans to? If we take a biblical perspective, it is a sin to have sex out of wedlock... for humans. The bible makes no mention of it being sinful for two unmarried goats or two unmarried dogs to have sex. Why? Because animals cannot marry. Animals are great, but they are on a different level than humans, they don't have the same moral / ethical obligations that humans do. So, it is okay for animals to be promiscuous, because they are animals. Humans are not simply animals in that sort of sense.

Were it not for posters like Lance I'm not sure I'd be coming to this site. I don't enjoy watching developmentally challenged people struggling with basic cognitive tasks, in fact I find it rather sad. But I do find it amusing to read the delusional ramblings of people like Lance who are clearly not right in the head. I'm not proud of that fact, but I can't help it. A cheap laugh can still be a good laugh.

Not "wants", a "freedom". I, as a Christian, following my Lord's words, must allow Gays the same freedom that I have, because if they were the majority, I would want them to allow me, a heterosexual, the freedom to marry a person of the opposite sex. The Golden Rule is the master rule. Anything in the bible that doesn't fit this rule must by decree of the Lord be tossed out as being against God. The Golden Rule is what makes me a Christian. It is the rule that has made civilization more civilized. It is the rule that if we keep adhering to, things will get better for everyone. When we go against this rule, and find things in the bible to support our prejudices and needs to be superior to others, that civilization starts to break down. Freedom for others if I want the freedom myself. Love others if I want to be loved. Forgive others if I want to be forgiven. Heal others if you want to be healed. That's what the Lord wants me to do. Not call people abominations and tell them they can't marry, can't have the right to be by their partner's deathbed, can't be responsible for their partner's affairs, can't hold hands in public. Slavery has been around since the dawn of history, and it is people finally following the Golden Rule that eventually put an end to "the institution" in this country and others. You have the right to think and speak that homosexuality is perverse. I would never stop you from speaking your mind, because I wouldn't want you to stop me. According to the Golden Rule, you and don't have a right to strip the humanity from what is essentially a minority. We have the bill of rights to make sure the majority doesn't always rule, for if it did, Gays would probably all be in jail or worse. I, as a Christian, don't support gay marriage because it makes me feel good; I support it because it is humane and Christian to do so. I know that if I make my life about keeping them down and making sure they don't have the same rights as heterosexuals, I will be practicing what is essentially the opposite of love, the opposite of The Golden Rule. What if Gays were the majority and they outlawed heterosexual marriage? Without the bill of rights and the Golden Rule, it's a possibility. Would I want that? No. I would want the right to share finances, ownership, parental duties, benefits, and end-of-life decisions for me and my partner. Why would I use any of my precious time on earth speaking out against and trying to stop Gays from having the same rights as me? The minute I go in that direction is the minute I go against the Lord, God, and the Golden Rule.

I support the concept of same sex marriage for two consenting adults.

But I think it must be done carefully, as with, let's say, setting a reasonable age of consent (e.g., 16) for marriage.

What I mean by this is that marriage cannot be a free for all. Yes, it is a nice thought that if a group of people love each other, they should be able to get married. But polygamy is a social disaster, and frankly, wreaks havoc on the living conditions of way too many women and children. We ignore the data behind it at our peril.

I too, am curious about what rarely gets discussed. For example, when I raise the notion that gay marriage (at least for males) is a positive public health move, well, that is not the subject people want to talk about. But I think it is. Marriage is not easy to leave, creates financial responsibilities, and while far from perfect, does restrain sexual irresponsibility. This seems to be a plausible reason to advance same sex marriage, and frankly, should appeal to social conservatives.

I look forward to this issue as it evolves.
