Conditions were fair, the ground was fine (besides a small patch of mud on the starting stretch) and there was a small hill that got ran three times; nothing unmanageable.

If you look at the splits link on leone-timing Geneseo was in 16th place as a team at the 4k with their top 7 in places 82-88. They moved to 6th place at the 6k and 2nd at the finish.

Hard to gather much from those results as Saratoga's not a real 5k. I wonder where RPI would've fit in at U of R today? Maybe right around TCNJ?

I took a look at the URInv women's results again. If you subtract the Cornell women, then St. Lawrence had their top five in the first 13 places, with their #6 just a few seconds behind. That is a *really* quality D3 team that deserves a strong national ranking--damned impressive.

the geneseo guys ran the first 3 miles at 5:30 pace and then were told to go.If you look at the times 4 geneseo guys ran 9:40 their last 2 miles and the rest not far off.Cortland I am not sure but they were spread out more.

Easy win (seven of the first eleven) for the Violet men, who head to Williams for a big showdown next week. Only one man under 27 minutes(!) today, but it was at Holmdel.

Here's how I see it right now:

1. Geneseo - They look pretty good. Wortner is even better than he showed at Pre-regionals. Expect him to be a solid 4th or 5th runner by the end of the year.

2. NYU - They are always good at the end. I think Oja and Bonilla are legit top five contenders at regionals, and that's a good start to a team score.

3. Rochester - Pacheck is better than he showed at Pre-regionals. If he keeps running as a 3rd or 4th guy they can't do any better than 3rd or 4th team.

3A. Cortland - See above except replace Pacheck with Marcantonio. (Marcantonio, however, is on my short list of possible regional winners)

5. SLU - Sam Rakoc and a bunch of guys I've never heard of. I'll have to study up on them a little more.

6. RPI - Dual meet wins over Plattsbugh and Hamilton so far this season; they'll pick on someone their own size next week. I'm not gonna jump on the engineer bandwagon until I see the results from Williams.

7. Oneonta - Is it just me or has John Longo been around for 10 years?

8. TCNJ - They have some pretty big gaps and A LOT of freshman. I could see them outside the top ten in November.

T9. Buff State, Ithaca, Hamilton - I don't know much about Buff state. Ithaca should be higher based on track but they never seem to do well in XC. Hamilton hung tough against two good schools in under-distance dual meets.

This. Finally not a post about who was holding back and who wasn't.

1)Geneseo - Best team running right now.

2)U of R - They have raced very good, and are deeper than most teams.

3) NYU - Will know more in a couple of weeks,

4) Cortland - Might not be as good as people thought they would be.

5) St. Lawrence - Rakoc was impressive this week

6) TCNJ - Three freshman in the top 5

7) Buff State - African contingent gives them a 1-2

8) RPI - Two low key duel meets. Avoid racing region teams until Regionals

9) Ithaca - Not a very deep team

10) Oneonta - If only Regionals was a 800

11) Fredonia - Don't really have a 1

12) Vassar

13) Brockport

14) Plattsburgh

Individual Favorite: Bernstein, Geneseo

Women

1) St. Lawrence - Dominated Pre Regionals

2) U of R - very solid 1-3

3) NYU - Will know more in a couple of weeks

4) Geneseo - Did not look like Geneseo of old

5) Rowan - Have not raced regional teams

6) Plattsburgh - Might take down Geneseo at SUNYACS

7) TCNJ - Good 1-2

8) Ithaca - No 1

9) Vassar - Big gap between 1 and 5

10) Cortland - No 4 or 5

Individual Favorite: Malone, Brockport

Did RPI guys all run together or something? Ive heard it was a fast course so it seems like their times were somewhat slow? Nice pack though, 1-7 look good

Don't be surprised if Lehigh is the first time RPI actually tries in a race. Lynch's interviews on the RPIAthletics site imply only JV guys are going to Williams.
