Not to mention it tells others that "I'm a giant toolbag as well as a douchebag"

We knew that about you already.
Well stated young man, but you do write that you care what people think about how you dress if they know you. Thats why you put the shorts on and not just tights when you are around friends.Do you ever worry that your friends or the friends of your girlfriend will see you running in just tights?Just curious.

In all honesty does it really matter how you dress for running? I don't give a crap about how some stranger judges me as I run along the road, whether or not they're a redneck or a fellow runner. Personally, I'll wear tights when running and then put shorts over them when I go inside and talk with friends or a coach. I'd just feel less comfortable without the shorts on, especially around my friends that play baseball/football/etc and don't really understand the whole running tights without shorts thing. But if I'm outside running the roads I'm not about to judge someone wearing shorts over their running tights or not wearing running shorts over them. It. Does. Not. Matter. There's more to a person than how they feel comfortable with the clothing they run in. I mean it's rather wasteful to get angry over such an insignificant thing, you're almost all adults, I hope you'd get past the whole "judge a book by its cover" thing. I'm 17 and it appears I've realized that more than the rest of you.
So does the tights issue only concern guys or is it "weird" for girls to only run in tights too?
No tights, just shorts. Those things are horribly constricting.
Girls and tights are both feminine....perfect fit.

Girls in tights are hot. I dated a girl on the team who would wear tights all the time ... damn.

Exactly. Women in tights are hot. Can anyone honestly say that about skinny guys? Come on, put on some shorts. It's crazy you all even need to be told this.
Last night it was finally cold enough to don tights. Well, half tights, tights, long sleeve, half zip jacket, beanie, and gloves. I did. It was amazing. My legs were warm. My junk was warm. I didn't struggle through a warm-up mile trying to get comfortable. No one yelled at me or questioned my manhood. It was amazing.
Afterwards, we went out for Mexican food and I was too lazy to change all my clothes. I pulled on knee-length shorts and hiked the tights up to my knees. No one said anything about that either. Well, I took off the gloves and beanie so that may have helped.
I think runners always look stupid to non-runners so they are never surprised by the clothes we wear.
Nobody said anything to you for good reason. Too bad you're too dim to figure it out.
Right back at you.

It's freaking 100 degrees why would they wear tights
You'll have to ask the dimwit who earlier said Kenyans wear tights.
Cycling is really big where I live and it's not unusual to see people walking around looking like superheroes in full cycling gear. Occasionally you'll see a cyclist wearing baggy shorts over their tights but those guys look like dorks. So male runners in tights isn't a big deal. Tight compression shorts, full tights, or anything in between.
Well, now I know where Rick Perry stands on the whole shorts under/over tights thing.
