You obviously didn't read my post or you have a severe reading comprehension problem. The UCSD course is ANNOYING, but not HARD. I've run a majority of my cross country in WI, and trust me, there are plenty of hills, sharp turn, ruts, and sand to go around. My issue with UCSD is that it sucks. Having a CC course that practically mandates an all out sprint for the first mile to allow for a competitive position because the course simply isn't wide enough to pass is dumb. There is nothing crappier than expending all your energy going sideways when it's time to start moving in the waning kilometers.By your post, I am supposing that you've never ventured too far from the Pacific ocean? Might want to plan a pilgrimage to a real cross country course sometime soon. University of Wisconsin Parkside is a good start.

I am pretty sure that the person meant that UCSD should be barred from hosting another regional for 10+ years. Not allowing them to run would be unfair.

You want to talk about rules? If you want to do that then many teams should of been DQed and never even ran the second race. Many teams from the GNAC while racing in the first race showed more then enough unsportsmen like conduct to justify being thrown out. I heard at least three different team's runners from the GNAC say to UCSD runners, fans and officials "F*** YOU SAN DIEGO" and many other things. I'm not here to point fingers or name teams or people even though I could and even give numbers of the runners who did it. The point is that, even after everything, 5 days later people are still talking and saying the same things. If you think UCSD should be punished, even though there is nothing in the rules saying it merits punishment, then certainly there should be some DQ's and well that might even change who should be going to nationals. But I don't think either of those things should happen. I think people need to just shut up and give respect where it is due and not show unsportsmen like conduct both on the course and on the internet. If you think I'm wrong go ahead keep talking and being disrespectful it will just dig your own grave.

P.S. In no way I'm I saying that all the schools from the GNAC are doing this or being disrespectful. There are plenty of schools like did the right thing and where respectful. I'm not attacking ALL the GNAC, but it only happened from schools in the GNAC that I saw and so instead of naming the schools and starting a pissing match, Id rather leave it like this.

Seriously? Weren't you the one that called out Welling? And now your pointing the finger at the GNAC? If you were in the race then you should remember that everyone in the race was throwing out f bombs...EVERYONE!!! Including you sacred UCSD runners...and who else are we going to be pissed at? What are we going to yell F*** Chico, or F*** Anchorage, or F*** WWU? No, because they weren't the schooled the f***ed up, it was your school. As far a I know, the only thing UAA can be accused of is their coach telling their local paper that he thought the officials were idiots and UCSD had bad meet management.

All of which was true, especially in light of the fact that it took over 30 minutes for medical to get to the finish and deliver aid to their athlete.

I'm not certain that their athletes can use the english slang and drop f bombs.

I said he was running dumb for the course compared to the competition. I never said any bad about any of the school in a disrespectful way. Saying someone or everyone did something dumb and messed up when they did is not what is considered to be unsportsmen like conduct. Lets look at it like the NCAA would if they were to get a letter letting them know about an incident.

They apply the same type of ruling across the board to all sports. So if in a NCAA final four game of basketball a player were to yell at crowd, officials and players of another team, "f*** you _____", during the competition because of a mistake like the shot clock not resetting or something else, do you think that player would be in trouble?

If in Volleyball if one of the ball boys dropped a ball and it rolled into the court during the middle of a play and got in the way. And the a player from the other team yelled the same thing at the officials, fans, and other players and then went on to say publicly that _____ school is horrible and should be punished and went on to disrespect all the people from that school, do you think that they would get in trouble?

Now take this into consideration the NCAA has already shown that they consider things said and posted on the internet to be just as bad as doing it and getting caught. For example posting public pictures of a team getting drunk at nationals or while on a team trip. So why wouldn't unsportsmen like conduct be any different. There is a difference in stating your opinion and slandering someone. I'm pretty sure saying some one is dumb for doing something isn't unsportsmen like. If a basketball player after a play he disagrees with, goes and says the reff was dumb for making a call like that, no one will cares if he does it on the bunch or online but if he does the disrespectful route during competition then I know it is a different story.

My point is shut up, because first if your on a team you are breaking NCAA rules, two because you have no right to be disrespectful to a whole school and program and three because your digging your own grave like I said before.

In you first post you call out Welling and the whole WWU team for racing dumb, subsequently stating that if not for the race being stopped they probably never would have qualified. You then state that some GNAC teams should be dsqualified because of unsportsmanlike conduct, and as a result the national berths could change (GNAC + national berths = WWU).

Since your first post is settled around WWU's dumb racing and then leads all the way up to what should be their disqualification for unsportsmanlike conduct (do you have proof of this, btw?), you obviously are bitter that WWU qualified and not your team (UCSD?).

You are therefore a sore loser, which is a form of unsportsmanlike conduct.

See I think what happened is what happened and that nothing should be changed. Give all the events that happened they deserve to go based on talent and race result. But if individuals on that team acted in any of the following ways, I do not think that is the kind of sportsmanship a team going to nationals should be showing. When they go to national championship they are no longer representing their school and the GNAC only but they are representing the whole west region and their actions reflect onto every program in the west region and I dont want a team showing that kind of sportsmanship to slippy rock if god forbid that same thing happened again. Or anything else that is to happen. Because I know those teams from that area like slippy rock and Lockhaven (sp) are great teams with great sportsmanship and in no way deserve to be disrespected in any way like this no matter what happens. So I'd hope that by knocking some sense into some people before nationals by telling you to shut up and show some sportsmanship might make you change and help the image of the west region.

And seriously, stop bashing UCSD. They ran an excellent meet aside from one mistake. Although there are MANY versions about what happened, UCSD has taken full responsibility for the mistake, so give them some respect, they deserve it.

^^^good post. UCSD actually has a really good program. I was seriously considering going there but I didn't get in for academics. They are ranked #1 in division 2 for academics and athletics combined. I'll admit that I was pissed when the race got stopped, but we all need to realize that mistakes happen. I would definitely run another race there because it is actually a TRUE cross country course... except there's not enough mud :)

Look I don't mean to draw anything out, I am simply pointing to evidence that you are being slightly hypocritical.

Furthermore teams outside of the west region are not going to look down upon any team other than UCSD, unfortunately. It was probably a well-run meet other than that one mistake, but it was a very very very costly mistake that should have been avoided. I agree, give UCSD a break now that they have admitted their wrongdoing and it is all said and done, but don't expect for some time that other teams from the region or nation are going to entrust UCSD to run a fully competent meet.

And I would never condone unsportsmanlike conduct but as a national onlooker I can say with certainty that if I were in the shoes of any one of the seniors out in that field who have a shot of going to nats and that debaucle took place, you would definitely hear some f-bombs flying out of my mouth.

A couple of observations at this point. Lots of venting here. Most of it emotional rather than logical. Most of it justified. Having said that, anyone in the race who was dropping F bombs during or after had plenty of justification for doing so and should not be criticized or penalized for expressing their disappointment and frustration with the situation in an emotional outburst. We, (UCSD- I still consider myself part of the program) chose to host the Regional. The course as laid out had two major flaws for a Regional - substantial sections are too narrow to be appropriate for a Regional and the changing multiple loops present a higher than average probability of error, which did occur. We are responsible for the course choice and, therefore, we are responsible for the course problems. We did not control the decision to stop the first race, or the timing of that decision 6-7K into the race rather than sooner after the problem occurred, but that decision flowed from our course problem, so we have responsibility for it as well. For the future, we should not be awarded another Regional until we demonstrate that we have addressed the problems that occurred this time.

another ex-Tritan makes the most valid of point. UCSD should not host Regionals on that course ever again. They need to find a course that will be within the rules of the NCAA Championships.

The year they bid for this Regional Meet, no one else bid. No one else in Southern California was willing to put on a meet so it went to UCSD by default. At the time they were promising a different course, some horse place. But that fell through. We need more schools willing to host in Southern California or change the way the meet rotates.

I hope that all those that are running nationals are not wasting their energy with being angry or upset. Please stop reading the boards about this and focus on nationals. Go represent and bring us back an extra bid for next year!

Talking about rules when you are the one responsible for their complete destruction is silly. It's like that guy who hrows a weak first punch and then cries when he gets his ass kicked. UCSD ran a course that didn't comply with the rules and then didn't marshal it according to rules. Of course people will be upset when they realize that the apathy of people in charge has ruined their race. UCSD has no defense. They should absolutely never be allowed to host again. The blame does not go to runners; it goes to the officials.

Your wrong man. Do u realize the shape you have to be in to even make the top 7 at Chico. These guys do two a days throughout the year, and most their mileage is in the 90-100 mile range, with tons of long 10-12 mile tempos. Its just like another little workout, in 2 weeks there legs are gonna be so fresh. Gary is gonna taper them for the race of their lives

All the coaches got an apology, at least one of their runners posted an apology as a comment to the flotrack west regional video, their team and coach apologized to us after the meet, etc.

Anyway, this issue is over. Get the heck out of here until you can learn some respect.
