Well, he never failed a doping test, first of all. A positive 'A' sample and a negative 'B' sample is a negative 'test' by definition (this is meant to address the test's poor specificity).

And switching countries for freedoms is pretty much what brought all of our families to America, isn't it?

Good for him for not sitting out 2004 due to backward IOC rules. If he could have run for the US then, he would have.

The results posted are not the order the events were ran. Between his race was a 'B' 800, the steeple, the women's 1500 and another section of the men's 1500. It was right around an hour between races.

At any rate, it seems like a very good indication that he is in fine shape to run three good 1500s in four days in July. The point is still valid that 2:53 and 1:47 are probably worth about 3:43 and 3:40. So you can project that he would probably win two heats of the 1500 with comparable efforts in 24 hours at Trials, and still be the freshest in the final, with the possible exception of Lagat (who is the only one who would clearly find that double easier than Webb, but who will also have raced 2 x 5000 the previous week).

Give Webb a break. He has tried everything to not much avail. Perhaps he is trying a late peak at the right time. Afterall, the trials are the way to the Olympics. We all know he has the talent. He just needs to use his head at the right time.

As for Webb, much as I think hes a great runner, he is clearly a head case.

actually the women's steeple was before his race, as well as the "B" 800. just letting you know. The races were pretty spaced out.

The actual schedule (not like it matters) -

"B" 800

Women's Steeple

"A" 800 with Webb

Women's 1500

"B" Men's 1500

"A" Men's 1500

I think you're reading into that way too far. Am I happy what we are doing right now as a country? No. Do I have enough class to show some respect while any national anthem of any country is being played? Yes.

Steve Jones was walking around and had enough sense to stop what he was doing for that minute as well as EVERYONE else who was there. I doubt Steve Jones is a great patriot of the United States seeing as he is not a citizen here.

So take it however you want to take it. That's what I saw. I don't care what he has done in the world of sport if he can't take a minute of his time and show a little respect.

Let me translate this:

"I love living in a powerful, rich country as long as other people bear the burden of keeping it powerful and rich. As soon as we are not powerful and rich, I will move to another powerful, rich country and enjoy the benefits of the blood, sweat and tears of those citizens."

Great reply. And to Super, that was an incredibly disrespectful post... I can only assume that you're too young to realize what kind of sacrifice has been made and continues to be made for our "heritage and all that crap."

Webb is representative of the unfinished American dream. After years alternating between great races and races he has made excuses for, he obviously has not figured out the connection between talent, desire, coaching, progression and maturity. Why should anyone give him a break? This is a competitive sport where American men have struggled since Salazar and Virgin last consistently beat elite fields. GREAT RUNNERS have "a bad race" now and then . . . average runners have "a great race" now and then. You be the scientist here: which category do you place Webb in?
