Three months until he can start with something that can be seen as real training, according to the doctor for the norwegian national team. So there wont be enough time to go for a fast time at Bislett. And without a fully fit Jakob, Almgren will have a shot at double european golds in the 5000m and 10000m.
I would add that Roger Federer had two sets of twins. It didn't impede his career. He continued to play at the top level and his kids later came to see him play.
Roger Federer has a trad wife (Slovak). She took care of their children. The feminists believe the care of young children be 50/50 between mom and dad even if the dad has a full-time job and the mom doesn't.
Sounds like a podiatrist. Just imagine being a professional athlete, training your entire life to be that good, flying across the world to the US where there are some of the finest surgeons in the world only to get operated on by a person that couldn’t get into med school.
This is why I hate so many doctors. When I was running and coaching, I used to always think, "A orthopedic surgeon/doc is almost always worthless. They'll simply order an MRI and tell you not to run." A podiatrist or physical therapist will actually try to get you back and works with these type of injuries all of the time.
Some idiot orthopedic surgeon thinks he knows more about running than Amol Saxena. LOL.
It would be like saying we shouldn't let Elon Musk launch rockets because he doesn't have a PHD (according to GEMINI, SpaceX offers significantly lower launch costs than NASA, with Falcon 9 flights costing around $62–$67 million compared to over $2 billion for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS).)
Amol operated on me 15+ years ago. Looking back what I thought was great about him (but annoyed me at the time) is he didn't think "Oh let's operate first." In fact, I was pushing for it and he didn't want to do it without making sure we'd tried everything else.
Can you imagine being dumb enough to risk your career as a pro runner by going to some ortho who has never done the surgery before or does it like once every 5 years versus some who does it all the time?
It's my understanding the actual surgery isn't that complicated. So imagine it's like cooking. Would you rather have a chef who cooks every day making your meal or someone who wrote a textbook on cooking but has never actually made the meal you need.
Here is a post Amol made on facebook last night.

This was a humbling week after treating kids who could not walk & Olympic champion who cannot train. Different goals, but goals none the less. Honored to help them & all in between. Was thinking how my "career" kind of tracked in some what of a peak in decade increments: 1986, started sports medicine marketing with Puma. As a poor Podiatry Student the stipend made a big difference. Also became President of Scholl's Sports Medicine Club where we had 20+ activities & left a $2K+ surplus...1996 Operated on my 1st World Athletics Medalist, 2006 started the Shockwave study, anti-gravity treadmill, treating many Nike athletes as well as other pros, including operating on a Gold Medalist & a future Silver Medalist, 2016 had 6 patients win Olympic Medals, bringing me to 2026, another Olympic Gold Medalist & gratifying work with Operation Footprint. Had another "kid" now 32 that I treated he & all his family members for over 20 yrs. A lot of great memories! Not sure I will be still at it at 2036 but grateful for all the trust and confidence my patients have given me. Will hang in there through 2032 Olympics if possible since I am board certified through 2033...

Dumb, you showed some courage the last days!
Instead of being depressed after something like 50 of your helpeful posts were removed, you increased your cadence to 50+/day. Great reaction - try to stay focused! To reach 50000 in 2026 is eminentely possible now!
once the incisions heal he will be good to go there is no structural damage and his surgeon is the best in the world for running specific injuries
I don’t think it’s as simple as well he got the procedure and everything will be back to normal in two months. He’s suffering Achilles-area injuries on both sides, so it’s not just happening out of nowhere. We will have to see if his body can handle the heavy volume he is used to 110 mpw in base, 40mpw threshold. After that the specific work is next. His brothers unfortunately broke down around this age from the wear and tear. Narve Nordas in a different way is now breaking down with illnesses left and right. I am optimistic Jakob at the very least is back to being very tough to beat on the DL circuit at 1500, and positioned to medal in the 5,000. I’d personally be surprised if he’s a threat to win the 1500 from now on, though I’ve been saying that since Hocker ran 7:23-flat.

Considering what Jakob thinks of Gjert, I am pretty sure that he is getting up at night to put his daughter back to sleep like a good dad would.
Then get up and off to the next hard session of training towards the WR.
Talk to any sleep doctor, vast majority absolutely underestimates how crucial recovery during night sleep is. People who don't sleep well for extended periods of time literally lose some of their lifespan.
He just posted in insta confirming he has surgery. Is indeed in a boot.
Also apparently the same doctor who fixed Galen Rupp’s achilles. Should be back to training within 3 months and good to race within 6 months around August. Best year to do it with no world champs or Olympics.
Frogner, you must be fun at parties! Relax, I wasn't at work yesterday. Fact: he had on a walking boot on his left foot. Speculation: given this, his most recent injury and his location in the Bay Area: He is in town to get RSW, FSW, EMTT +/- PRP . At this point surgery would seem unlikely to me.
PS: world class distance runners don't swarm to Germany for achilles treatment even if there are a couple docs there that are top notch.
well he just confirmed surgery
I'm guessing Dr. Saxena performed the operation? I don't see that Dr Magoo is still practicing. Anyone know who operated on Jakob?
Jakob was never going to break the 1500/mile records anyways (not enough natural speed like El G had), but that's a topic for a different thread.
However, people who are saying he's beyond his years of being a top 1500/5000 runner are wrong. It's true that, historically, these guys are 21-25, but we live in a new era. Remember Donovan Brazier just won USAs in the 800 (a young man's race) in his late 20s after years away from the track.
Very bizarre breakdown. Laros ceased to exist I guess? Nuguse? McPhillips is staying in the 800, come on. Kessler, Reynold Cheruiyot, Strand other options.
I want personality too along with talent, Nuguse to be fair is easy to root for on that front.

You have to admit that Donnie doing that on “5 months training” (as claimed) is highly suspicious, if he really had that short a block of training.
That said, hopefully Jakob can eventually get back to top shape. He would defintely be able to challenge the 5k record, but the 1500/mile will be taken over by the kids like Myers, Ruthe, Laros. I would also say Koech but after seeing close up pics and videos of him, he’s no teen and he’s likely only a year or two younger than Jakob.
Flying all the way from Norway to take advantage of the best healthcare with the best facilities, medical tech, and most highly trained doctors in the world without having to wait 18 months to see some no name socialist doctor. #usa#
That's not what happened. Jakob simply can afford the most experienced / popular in the world and it happens to be in the US.
There is a different level of confidence in a team of specialists who have succesfully done it 1000 times vs someone with 50 times under the belt. Although the skills of the specialists and the procedure might be on the same level.
Podiatrists can’t operate on Achilles in Norway or most of Europe. Would have had to have been an Ortho. I’d imagine the person he went to is very specialised doing the same thing day in day out which you wouldn’t have the numbers for such specialised practice in Norway.
I bet he is posting videos of himself running on instagram before St Patrick’s day. He’s probably cleared to ride a bike and get on the elliptical with the boot after 72 hrs.
So yeah, the surgery he had isn't the most complicated but ...
1- How did he get injured in the first place, is he addressing this?
2- His training is largely based on double thresholds + light volume of added hills/speed. Nothing that he does is particularly taxing in terms of speed/impact. So if gets injured with that training regimen, what is he going to change? Reducing volume would make the Double Threshold less efficient. Changing to a more traditional training with higher volume of speed work would risk reinjuring the Achilles.
I don't really see a scenario where he achieves both health and fitness from there
