Jakob Ingebrigtsen has had Achilles surgery in California

Those of you who have followed over the past couple of years will know I’ve been struggling with my achilles. A persistent and very specific injury that forced me to miss a lot of training and racing.
Around 2 weeks ago, the achilles flared up again and we finally took the decision to travel to America for surgery. This is of course not something to be taken lightly but absolutely the right thing for the longevity of my career.
The surgery went very smoothly and I’m relieved to have a clear path of recovery back to the start line after many months of uncertainty.

Well he just posted he went to Palo Alto and had achilles surgery so you win.

Best year to do it and come back strong in 2027-28. Unfortunately I think the WRs might be out of reach. We’ll see.

Thats to bad! Probably no record attempts then. 4-5 months before he is back to normal training maybe?
But, if there is one season that is the right timing for surgery its this one. No big events for him except euros.

sad. I need a new favorite runner to pass the time. Just rooting AGAINST hocker and kerr isnt really fulfilling. especially when they're running so well

He just posted on Instagram, he came to the Us to have Surgery on his Achillies

It's so silly that for some reason they stopped the 1500m at Monaco, otherwise Jakob would have the WR now. Coe was prepared to reset all WRs before 2005 jist to get rid of El G's dirty ones, but allowed some imbecile to decide no more 1500m at Monaco.

He says the surgery was to remove scar tissue around the sheath of the achilles.

Do they cut out the bad achilles and stitch it together again?

I've never been a fan of his, but it's sad because I still don't like seeing injuries. He should've at least gone for a fast 5k in 2024 when he probably could've run close to 12:30.

Okay, that at least is some good news. That is a less invasive intervention than I feared. Still a long way back off course.

He says in his new YT video that it wasn’t the achilles but rather the sheath surrounding it so it wasn’t a massive invasive procedure basically. But if it wasn’t so invasive, why didn’t he do the surgery months ago? Seems odd to do it in February after testing and failing for many months. Hopefully it recovers but you have to worry a lot about his WR prospects.

This is the truth. In his only run at 1500m in his prime, he PBed despite coming back from injury. Just a huge waste after years of that being the prime 1500m spot due to the sea level and enclosed stadium.
