I am scratching my head hearing about these coaches who have a roster of Kenyans. It does not appear that anyone is bending the rules.
Maybe reaching out to the NCAA would be the best thing to do. I know it would be work for anyone that is against foreigners dominating and having scholarships allocated to them, but talking about it here will not move the needle as much as if you approached the NCAA.
The Bama crowd at Bryant-Denny didn't seem to mind. Doris Lemngole got some nice Jumbotron time during the football game this afternoon and the crowd roared when they showed the video of her winning. If it wasn't for it occurring during a time out, I would have thought I missed a touchdown or something. Alabama, a school that was off-limits to all black students, American or otherwise, only 65 years ago, cheering wildly for a black Bama student from Kenya.
The Deep South moved passed its bigotry and xenophobia; maybe the LetsRun board should take a few lessons.
It's great they cheered for her, but it's not because the Deep South moved past racism (at the moment Alabama is still trying to gerrymander their congressional districts to minimize Black voting power, and a few years ago they just barely elected to the Senate a former US Attorney who prosecuted perpetrators in Alabama's worst-even terrorist attack, over an impeached judge with serious pedophile issues. Only to replace him with a dumb-as-rocks ex-football coach). They simply accepted in football (and basketball), that Black players could help them win. So that was ok, but even then Alabama didn't have a Black football player until 1971. Now college track/XC coaches are recruiting foreign athletes who can help them win. And people who support a school like it when their team wins, no matter who is representing them.
What is the rationale for universities recruiting international athletes please? This is not done for the professions (non-athletics) I am familiar with. It seems detrimental to college athletics.
You are unaware of universities admitting academically standout international students?
How can you not like Samuel? He's a great interview. I love the backward hat. The NCAA's are better with him in it.
I like him. I don't have a problem with them individually(except maybe the ridiculously overage ones or the ones who lie about it like Musau) and Samuel seems like a class act. I agree that we should have athletes from other countries but there should be a limit per school. There should be more than 5 Americans in the top 30.
Needs to be like the EPL - only a % of players can be from other countries; the majority must be from England. Do the same with XC - the majority need to be US-born students.
Lol, football is almost the purest form of the free market in sport. If a Premier League team has to field 11 foreigners to win, then they will. Clubs have scouts all over the world looking to sweep up talent.
Dad, help! Call our Congressman, it's not faaaaaaaaaaaaaair :( :( :( I tried really heard, I deserve some recognition! :( :(
More and more of the childish insults.
Again, great for getting likes on here, but probably won't help you much when convincing other people your position is best from the country.
Maybe try explaining to the average American family how it makes their lives better to give tax funded athletic scholarships to 30 year old men from Africa instead of their kids, without the condescending mockery? Something tells me you are completely incapable of doing that, because there is no good argument and you know it.
This is just as childish. 7 “tax funded” scholarships isn’t the problem. The problem is US tax policy and social support has turned OSU and universities in country club play havens for kids. And preparing you for a job to pay your inflated student loan bills is not even in the top 10 of OSU’s priorities. That’s the problem to fix.
In my opinion, you’re better off going to trade school, which is for more than plumbers and electrician. I’d start in health care, guaranteed high demand jobs, and all of the training and education cost will be heavily subsidized as you climb the career ladder to master level degrees.
This is F***ing ridiculous, 25 of the top 30 finishers in the Men's XC NCAA Championship were international. Most from Kenya. We need to save the NCAA and limit internationals, limit the ages - and drug test them.
Top Americans:
2nd - Rocky Hansen
7th - Gary Martin
16th - Colin Sahlman
25th - Aiden Smith
28th - Ethan Coleman
These coaches will say "the internationals help the Americans run faster and do better on the world stage" but that is BULLS***.
Ishmael Kipkirui came from the NCAA last year and beat American PRO runners Nico Young and Grant Fisher at the World Championships, placing 4th.
Lemngole beat all the Americans at the world championships in the steeplechase.
It's clear as day this current system is SEVERELY HURTING Americans as internationals take our scholarships, resources, coaching, etc. We are helping the international runners defeat Americans by providing them resources they wouldn't otherwise have.
So how would remedy this? Tell colleges they can go after international students however they want except for in athletics?

Not sure why you believe it’s an issue, American are just not that quick and need to step up.
is it a real cross country course or perfect golf course?

What about La Liga where only 3 non EU roster spots are available to every team? That is pure?

So what? Quite a few of the best football nations on the planet are from EU countries. I don't think any La Liga coaches will have sleepless nights because they can't put 4 Kenyan players on the roster.
Its why no one watches XC. Random Pickleball tourney gets 5 times the ratings XC championship will get on the cable station im watching this on.
Lol how many people watched xc when there were less foreign runners in the top 30 in, say, the 90s?
Take a look at the popularity of the NXR meets and soon the NXN meet. They have far more interest and investment than the NCAA meet. Think about what is possible.
If you drug test everyone at the same level , far more Americans than Kenyans will be eliminated. Whom do you think has more access to PEDs in America ? Most Kenyan runners in the NCAA do not have the financial means to procure PEDs and since they are college students, they don't have agents to help them with an advance.

There had to be 10,000 fans there yesterday. Seemed like more than in Madison the year before. Clearly more popular than the NXR/NXN meets.
That said, happy for the NXN platform..as it is helping with a growing popularity in the sport…perhaps a resurgence of sorts.
I don’t expect a notable amount of people to ever watch ncaa xc.
Why? Over 200,000 people applied to race in the NY marathon this year and hundreds of thousand went as spectators to watch their friends and family race. High school track and XC have among the highest participation rates (women's track is the highest, men's track is 2nd highest).
If the NCAA put out a good product, we can get incredible viewership.
But nobody wants to watch this s**t with 25 foreigners in the top 30.
Don't blame the foreigners
Unless you think that white South Africans or Europeans would fluff up the numbers
You all used to blame the foreigners for takkin our jerbs.
Now it causing the decline of a dead sport.
Its a minor sport and you expect a commercial system wants to waste a tv slot on something that won't sell the advertising. TV has to eat...
