Five years ago I would have agreed with you. But in an NIL world, she can do quite well financially and still enjoy college with her peers. I mean, if she went pro with Nike (where she has her NIL deal, and which probably has a pro ROFR), what would she do, train with Diljeet Taylor?

Yes. Stanford was ahead of Portland with 800m to go but Portland picked up 11 places in the final 800. That moved Portland up to 5th and pushed Stanford to 6th. Had Stanford held on, they would have finished 5th and qualified, pushing Boise State in as well. Instead, BSU, Stanford, and Portland are all set to miss out. Stanford hasn't missed NCAAs since 1993.

Hayley Burns has developed into a really solid runner for NAU. Impressive growth since she arrived on campus in Flagstaff
Yeah, she won a junior college national championship in 2022 for the local Coconino Community college. That's great and all, but it was an 18:22 5k. When she transferred to NAU, I thought "oh good for her, maybe she can make the top 7." Never imagined she'd be the top runner for a very strong NAU squad.
Maybe I have never noticed it before, but several teams without qualifying hopes aren't sending full teams or anyone. Auburn didn't send any women and only 3 men. I think the women could have been there 10-15th (last ranking 12th).
Has it always been like that or are we starting to see more budget pressure on Olympic sports?
There are a few each year, hard to tell if its more or less since it tends to be random. I expect it will happen more so, not necessarily because of budget but many teams are so thin roster wise a spat of injuries at the end of the season could easily end the season early.

Stanford not making the national meet on either side is just something that should never happen with the resources they have and the ability to recruit the best out there. YIKES.
The projected women's field has a pretty messy tiebreak for spot #31 between Wake Forest, Michigan State, and Washington. My program at xcquals.com gives it to Washington. Michigan State eliminated on tiebreakers, Wake Forest eliminated on common opponents. I'm not confident I have enough season result data to rely on that common opponents call.
