Her coach Meuwly hinted today that Femke's 50.95 was probably the limit of her ability ("it was going to be difficult to beat that"), so that lack of a PB goal could also be a reason.
He also says running a fast time will not be that difficult on the 800m, but the actual challenge is winning a tactical race.
It was also getting harder for Femke to gain motivation for running Diamond Leagues.
If her coach thought that altitude run was her limit, then he has not been honest with her, as he gave her a false sense of her capability at that event. I hope he does a more honest job with her in the 800.
Super brave. And definitely nothing to do with dodging Sydney.
It has everything to do with doging SML. If Bol wasn't dodging, she would have gone for the 400 flat. We are told by her sycophants, that her relay splits are indicative of her flat 400 speed.
Her relay splits this year? 50+? 49?
She's not even the best 400m runner in Europe so switching the 400m flat would make no sense.

The 50.95 was going to be an albatross for her since it was run in the best possible legal circumstances.

He meant that from a technical perspective, she ran close to her perfect race there. If you include the altitude, it's going to be hard to beat that.
600m indoors, where she ran all-out in 1:23 all alone
thats why,
the next 200 meters however will be a challenge, aerobic training, altitude tents, bicarb, and other legal hacks ... basically deprive you of oxygen and the adaptation is more red blood

I believe her relay split in Paris a year ago was 47 something. Moving to the 800M makes less sense to me than her moving to the 400M. But we will see.

That was not her perfect race. It was an outlier, overarchingly assisted by altitude. If he meant it from a technical perspective, he would have said it.
Right. But I didn't ask simply how many 400m hurdlers also ran the 800m did I?
Harald Schmid, similar to Juantorena and Kratochvilova, was a dual athlete his entire career, so hardly any difference to the names above. David Patrick exactly the same.
Of course the one difference that I made sure I explicitly referenced was the level of performance. David Patrick was a very good athlete - but was not the 2nd fastest 400m hurdler of all-time and his best performance was making an Olympic and World final over the hurdles. Very good - not the level of Bol.
Schmid was better - as you know, he won a bronze in LA over the hurdles as well as in Rome and was at one time the 2nd fastest man ever. But again, Bol is a two-time world champion, also has a silver medal and matches Schmids OG bronze but also has another one. She is significantly more decorated and of course, the main differences is that Schmid was a dual exponent of the 400H/800m his entire career which makes this scenario completely different.
So they didn't move UP to the 800m because they always WERE 800m runners. Hence why this is extremely rare and unique. Bol is midway (2/3?) through her career and is committing to a distance she's competitively not been seen running before. Certainly at a high level.
Maybe we are ignorant - at least the reading and comprehension skills are there buddy.
Good point, and Schmid was such an outlier that in addition to simultaneously being world class in the 400H/800m, he was also at the same time world class all the way down to the 200m. In fact, in 1987 he ran a 20.68 and a 1:44.83 -both personal bests- just five days apart. I doubt that level of simultaneous range will be seen again anytime soon, if ever.

It really doesn’t have anything to do with dodging Syd, I agree. Actually with it looking like Syd is going to be making more of a concerted effort in the 400 (I have also said the 200, but we’ll see), it would actually be the perfect time for Bol to stay in the 400h. She’s taking a risk but I think she’ll do well. I also think Syd will win gold in the 400 in LA and medal in the 200 and then she’ll retire.
I think Syd is abandoning the 400h as well; she has accomplished everything you can in the 400h. For those who don't know hurdle training takes a lot of time and does not leave time for much else. In addition to sprint/endurance training, there is hurdling technique, in between the hurdle's steps and flexibility. Also, the time spent having the physical hurdles in place; it is not uncommon for even elite hurdlers having to setup their hurdles and sometimes put them away as well.
Syd always stated she wanted to do a second event, I think 200/400 will be it and it's a doable double in 2028. Training for the 200/400 combined requires less time than the 400h alone. With that said, I can't see Syd getting higher than 3rd against the top 200m sprinters, although, that is exactly what I said about the flat 400l.

Really? I think she can run faster than 21.69 which is what MJW just ran to win Gold

21.69, sorry to say but I don't see it, 21.8x maybe
Practically all of the women who ran very fast 200s were also very fast in the 100. Ottey, FloJo, Jones, Felix, VCB, Elaine, Schippers, SAFP, Dina and Shericka Jackson for example, where all 10.8 or better 100m sprinters. Great 400m sprinters like Jarmila Kratochvílová, Marie-José Pérec, Cathy Freeman, Sanya and Shaunae for example, ran the 200m, but were not on the same level as 100/200 specialist. Even Marita Koch 400m record holder ran a very fast 200 (21.71} but she also had a 100m PR of 10.83. The only really fast 200m sprinter that does not have any equally fast 100m is Gabby Thomas, but she is at least a 10.9x 100m sprinter, whereas SML appears to be an 11 flat 100m sprinter at best, which is simply not enough speed to compete with the likes of Alfread and Jefferson.
Another: Edwin Moses only ran the 800 once. Early season 1:48
But let's not limit this to just 400m hurdlers. Bol also a top notch 400m star. And there have been several 400m/800m world class runners [ Juantonera at the top of that list]. Of course it's more common for 800m stars to also be world class at 1500m rather than 400.
Bottom line, it's not common for someone as good she is at 400m/400m H to also be world class at 800m, but, it certainly has been done, and maybe more could have done it if they tried.
When did Moses ever run 1:48? Or is this another made up story to enahance his ‘legend’? Some proof or didn’t happen. I suspect Moses would be more along the line of Andre Phillips, who was pushed to the limit to run 1:54 at a meet at UCLA. I know because I was there. If Moses did run 1:48, hat’s off. But I doubt it. It reminds me of people exaggerating his speed, and then most of the time Moses would lose ground or get passed when running relay legs for the US.

We’ll see…Femke and team seem to put her absolute max in the 400 at maybe 48-mid to 48-high which is no longer a medal guarantee, and actually not close to gold contention with the current top 3. The 800 is much more of an unknown of course. If she thinks she can break 1:55 or 1:54 that put her in firm medal shape with gold potential. Unclear if GHB has any more progression coming given that she’s older and likely got the benefits of her first year doing gym work. Keely of course has a high ceiling, but not higher than SMLs. Odiras really good but not close to Paulino good. So I can see a clearer path in the 800 IF she can learn the tactics and so on.

148 800m seems plausable given:
quoting Edwin Moses's on Gemini,
primary and most famous event was the 400-meter hurdles, where he was a two-time Olympic gold medalist and held an unprecedented winning streak. The information states that in his training, he "always trained like an 800m or a 1500m runner, running a lot of cross country... In training, I would do multiples of 1000 m runs, 800m runs."

Until she runs a block start 400M in that 48 time range, her absolute max is 49.4. Thinking that she can run 1:54 or faster means nothing until she does it. But I'm all for challenging oneself. You do not think Odira will improve? Or perhaps another Chebet 800 like pops out of the woodwork from Kenya as they seem to do with regular frequency?
And if Athing gets serious and kicks Kersee to the curb and gets a proper coach, Bol would be running for bronze or 4th.
