This is new info to me. Johnson just spent and spent and spent. From the article:
"The VIP treatment for athletes began in October 2024, when GST flew out signed-up racers and their plus ones to Malibu, where Johnson lives, for content creation, an all-expenses-paid social, and a trip to SoFi stadium in the corporate suites to watch the LA Rams beat the Minnesota Vikings. For track athletes, this treatment was out of the norm."
It appears they were in so much financial trouble after Miami that they almost did not hold the Philadelphia meet:
"In the middle of June, GST gave serious consideration to pulling the third leg of the season in Philadelphia. Johnson and Gera admitted to staff that funding was an issue and only 10 days out from the event, GST were still considering whether to go ahead."
And despite everything that had happened financially up to that point and nearly cancelling Philadelphia, they still gave serious consideration to holding the LA Meet anyway, but at Mt Sac instead of UCLA.
"Negotiations also took place to move the final meet to the cheaper Mt. San Antonio College, before deciding it could not go ahead at all."
