So, if Musk knew this all along, why did he associate with him to begin with and why is it suddenly a problem now? This can't be news to him, if it is true. He was willing to hide it/associate with him before he failed to get his way....

Because it allowed him to shut down parts of government that were investigating his businesses, because he got endless data on the American people, and because he wanted even more of the taxpayers' money funneled to his businesses.
