There was a thread started for the 2025 XC season but can't find it. BYU got 13 women in distance events at regionals! NAU got 10 and NcSt got 5. Food for thought on who might win XC...

I am quite sure Hansen has already run XC 4 times - 2021, 22, 23, 24. You might check on NM though. And OR.
Appleton kicks to 2nd. Hilda is out as 10 in heat 2 faster than her
The goober commentators calling this race on the stream were awful. Not only did they not anticipate Appleton's well known kick, twice they referred to Hartman's indoor 14:52.57. WTF?

Fair to make BYU favorite. NAU will be good again. Stanford has potential. Of course Oregon&Washington.
NC St will not have much room for error, but can always get help from returning injured or true freshmen.
Hartman, Gapes, Napolèon, Putman, Stephens, Michalak + help. That group can at least compete, and you can only race 7.
Back to the current season - can Hartman win both titles? I say she wins the 5 & Kosegi takes the 10.
What makes the 10k/5k battle so fascinating is Hartman and Kosgei need to make it a fast race so Noe or cherotich doesn't surprise them FTW. And yet not so fast (say sub-31:00 pace) that neither of them have anything in the tank for the 5k in which case I'd say Kennedy FTw. Hartman seems to be comfortable leading races. The 5k is one she should let others lead (since she'll be on tired legs) and hope she can out kick Kennedy/Hutchins/kosgei/Noe with 400m left.

Hartman now 4:26 miler, in theory that's quicker than Noe, Cherotich, Hutchins, Kosgei if she make move with 800+ to go.

One would think so but remember the 3k/5k indoors? Hartman was with the lead pack with 400m in both races and her speed was matched by everybody else. She didn't make a discernible surge pass any of the runners, finishing 6th/7th place.

I think Kosgei has to be the favorite for at least the 10, and I think she could win either a fast race or a somewhat slower race. I don't see Hartman lower than 2nd unless the pace is very slow.
The 5 could be more wide open depending on how the 10 goes. If the 10 is fast then then a Caron, Kennedy, Scrimgeouer, Hutchins, etc has to be willing to make the 5 fast else I would still like Kosgei and Hartman to finish 1/2 probably in that order.
