Crazy that 12:57i is now considered unremarkable. I remember when Isiah Koech ran 12:53i and that was huge news. I mean Ritz was a legend for going 12:56 outdoors. Different world
At BU yes. 12:57 is almost pedestrian. Fisher ran 13 seconds faster by himself a week ago.
this won't happen for another 10 years probably. it's a one off.
Hocker probably had a bit more in him, but you see Teare is in similar shape at the moment.
if he stays healthy, it's on, if he has issues, the boards can light up with choke this and choke that. if you don't win, expect to be kicked down the stairs from behind.
you do want to appreciate Grant Fisher's WR at this time, after all the hacks, shoes, etc. that time is truly elite.
one or two africans can give it a go, without pacing and their A game, Fishers record, sorry man, it's too tough.
We see your racism. It’s so easy to see these days. You don’t even hide it.
1) Gulveer Singh on Indian National Team and testing/wherabouts in WADA/NADA (India’s USADA). Was tested last week when he at the Indian 3k record. I assume tested again today.
2) Florida kid in NCAA. No testing. None. Only busted when he retuned to India to compete and NADA caught him. NCAA did not. UofF did not. Want to cheat? Go to the NCAA. Do NOT go back to India
They will catch your ass.
Test. Test, test, test.
The NCAA is the wild west for doping and always will be while there's an incentive to not catch all the roided-up football players
Honestly, 12:57 at BU is entirely unremarkable these days. We all know it's not a reflection of how anyone will perform outdoors. More than anything, I think it's sad that both Hocker and Tears have chosen to run a TT rather than compete at a national championship. Teare especially. He needs to make his mark and World Indoors could be a place to do that. At his level, you don't get to pick and choose which competitions you think are important. Hocker can prioritize Tokyo because he's a probable medalist, but Teare? Will he even make a final at an outdoor champs?

You have to understand World Indoors is like Rodney Dangerfield. Doesn't get any respect

If USATF doesn't care about its own championships, then neither should the athletes.
No. Actually, it’s possible he let it stay close, instead of completely blowing Cooper’s doors off. But if he then actually let Cooper win, all of the internet yahoo’s would have read too much into the loss, with weird prognostications, like “Hocker will never contend at the highest level in the 5000m.” I mean, just go back an look what was said in this thread, that garnered huge upvotes.🙄
Cole actually said he was just hanging on towards the end of a race, but he had just enough to get past Teare (who stopped for a second mistiming where the finish line was).
The outcome of the race wouldn’t have changed whether Cooper misjudged the finish or not. Hocker’s momentum was better and he was just ahead of Teare at the cone. Also Teare was breaking down more than Hocker was last 50.
Personally would love to see Teare and Hocker both make the 5k team. Teare has gotten better every year, it’s just that he need be ready on the day of the championship.
Hocker had a higher cadence, and looked like he was working harder than Teare throughout the race. However, this race was not a complete indication of how they will compete by the time the end of the summer arrives.
After the race, Hocker said he has a few more training blocks before he’s “fully there” in the 5k.

I agree, which is why I'm disappointed he didn't choose to prepare by running in a championship this weekend.
they both said the time felt much harder than they would have liked and were running as hard as they could. while also saying it's the best fitness they've ever had at this time of year.
i guess it's a good sign for hocker that he beat Teare at a distance where Teare easily beat him last year.
Cooper also said they are only running 6 days per week now, which is a change from before.
6 days a week has always been Ben Thomas philosophy. The change is more cross training
thanks for the correction. listening back on the interview, the way JG asked and Cooper replied, it could have been either of them to the listener (me) who isn't aware of Coach Thomas's long time training philosophy.
So it sounds like they've always done the cross training, but now they are doing it more well into zone 2 and getting into zone 3, whereas before they were just touching on zone 2?

ya, Hocker did fantastic, and also gave due respect to Fisher, in retrospect, it's sinking in how epic his 3k battle really was and what a great accomplishment it was.
sure the shoes and tracks and whatnot are reducing the times, but you just don't sneeze at sub 13 5k indoors, it's an accomplishment for any 1500 guy
Teare looked fantastic, and almost took out a 722 3k guy. hopefully the training keeps going well.
almost all of us on the boards, knows too well how it feels to have some success, and then for what ever reason, have to deal with the B game or worse.
i enjoy seeing guys get out of a hole and gather the A game, something I think we all deserve, but too frickin bad, only the super lucky stars are so privileged.
and those stars that don't quite make it, very annoying with the boo hoo, they have it 99 percent better than so many others with equal or better talent, and work ethic.
