Course was measured 4887 meters, so a good 100+ meters short. Also, not the same course as NXR. They use a different section of the soccer complex at Yankton Trail.

Not sure where you heard this, everyone who recorded it on their watch got at least 5k. Having it be short would make no sense, since they have plenty of space to make a full 5k. If it was truly that short, Fries certainly runs faster than he did.
Not true at all, if you check competitors strava they all match up with the 3.1 mile distance, confirming it's a full 5k. Just good conditions for quick times but legitimate distance.
Great performances at the Augustana Twilight meet last night. Fries 14:22 state record is fantastic but not unexpected, his form this past year has been electric. Some other great performances from the meet have to include Owen Stuwe running 14:50 to solidify himself as the number 2 runner in AAA, unfortunate he has to compete with a generational talent. Under the radar performance has to come from Minnetonka's Benjamin Kraus running 15:37 for a 50 second personal best. Placing 21st in such a deep field only adds to the impressive nature of this run. Considering his times this past year were anything but unspectacular (9:47 3200 and 16:30 5k) this big jump in performance has to be praised and spells good news for the minnetonka program, who have a fantastic 1-2 punch with a solid 3rd in Casey Nordstrom running 16:07. If their 4 and 5 can cut down to mid to low 16's its not crazy to consider them contenders for the state title this year.

This isn’t true at all. I was at the race and talked to multiple runners, they all had anywhere from 3.11 to 3.16 on their watches. The race was the proper distance, it’s just a flat course and the weather was ideal last night.

Wheeled by coaches on site at the meet. This isn’t meant to take away from it being fast or just impressive performances, just data worth noting. Considering Yankton Trail Park is where NXR is held, it’s nice to know that the course is different, for comparison purposes.
if you look at the course map, it’s a bunch of loops and lots of turns with over 400 runners in a fast race. Because of movement through the pack and going wide on turns, GPS devices very well could register 3.11 miles. The wheeled distance is the official measurement on tangents.

how do you account for all runners reporting 5k or slightly more on their gps watches? surely the large amount of runners getting the same distance is a better sample size than one or two coaches wheeling the course. Think without a doubt its a proper 5k not sure how you can deny it

You make an excellent point about Stuwe. He really seems to have turned it up a notch his senior season and the 14:50 time is one of the fastest times in MN history, but he is overshadowed by one of the best, if not the best ever, in Fries. Stuwe's time at the meet was 40 seconds faster than the next best MN runner in Sam Deutz, who is the top rated runner in the state in AA.
Also I spoke to a couple coaches and runners who were at the meet and they all said the course length was legit, so the poster who is stating the course was short just seems to want to diminish the results of the runners. Is it a fast course, absolutely, but every runner having it at 5K+proves the distance was correct.
If Fries ran a 14:56 at Saint Olaf (legit course), it’s not far-fetched to believe he could run a 14:22 on a flat Fast course in ideal weather not to mention he ran 8:57 in the 2 mile in the spring so he for sure has the leg speed.
I'll start by saying those dudes are all fast and some of the fastest from their respective states. GPS watches usually are accurate within +/- 10-15 feet. Every time your watch pings a satellite it will hit a point on the map that might not be accurate, could be 10 to 15 feet to the left of right. Even if you run a perfectly straight line, your watch is always going to make a mark slightly to the left or slightly to the right of you. You can see this on the athletes watches who ran that course, snaky lines and not completely straight. Most will call this GPS Noise. Over the distance of a race, these small inaccuracies can accumulate, leading to a longer distance showing on your watch compared to the official course measurement. Especially on this course that has multiple laps and an abundance of sharp corners. The official NXR course at the same complex should actually be a much faster course as it has much longer straight aways and far less corners. Most kids who run this Augie Twilight show times 30 seconds to a minute faster than what they ran last week. The kids who run the NXR course next week at the same complex will be markedly slower than this Twilight course. Something changed with the course Augie course 2-3 years ago as times exponentially became faster. A respected D1 coach whose athletes run in the college races at the Twilight will talk about this in his weekly presser. Kids will finish in the place where they should be but the times don't matter on this one. He said kids will show him their watches and he tells them to put them away. It's not accurate. Again, these kids that ran here in perfect conditions are fast but not 1 to 2 minutes in some case better than last week. There are memes and fliers posting across social media saying Mechura and Birnbaum's 5k state cross country records were broken. There are only course records, not some imaginary state record. Super disrespectful to those 2 runners and not good a good look for our sport.

What is the deal with people defending the course length like it is a personal attack. The course was measured short. 96 out of the top 100 kids set lifetime PR's. That doesn't happen even when conditions are perfect. Time will tell when kids run 30 seconds slower the rest of the season.
On the girls' side it was a mix of good AAA schools and a couple ranked AA schools. Waconia was solid in the win. Runner-up Rogers is stuck in 6AAA but looked good. Orono took third running without one of their top two runners and is poised to grab the second spot in 6AA. Delano might be overrated but does have a low stick and a girl who won the middle school race that should help them.
For the boys the individual field had four ranked runners and Hallen showed he is running at a higher level than the rest. Hallen is a definitely a contender for the AA title. Blake ran without Shamore Brinda and still won. Any update on his status?
No results from him at Bauman Rovn either, and Southwest beat Blake by 1 point without him

New Class A coaches ranking are in my opinion a joke. Why did pine city jump so far up, why is Logan Wiehoff now ranked after not being and running a 16:57, Clayton Salmon ran 16:42 at twilight, and is higher than Judah Allen, who just had an impressive race running 16:11 in tough conditions and hasn’t moved.
Woodbury had a great meet at Augustana. I believe they were 5th in their section last year, it will be interesting to see how they stack up against Stillwater and Two Rivers. I don’t remember the last time a team made state when they were 4th or worse in their section the year prior
