It will be interesting if Jane is the one that keeps Tuohy off of the LA ‘28 team.
Speed Rating is a bogus metric.
I would say they are only inaccurate when NY/NE athletes are involved. Meylan does not mean to have bias except it definitely shows itself there. I just ignore a lot of these ¨mind blowing¨ performances that come out of that region.
That is ALL of the top-15 finishes the US has ever had. Call me when a US Junior makes the top-5 and we can talk then.
You understand it's not prioritized any more, right?
They are competitive among the Kenyans etc. It is very impressive for an American to do this well. If modern athletes wanted to do another race they could have but they did not and that should not take away from athletes who did.
CIF Finals is an all-out effort. You don't realize this but being SS champion is huge. It is like a state meet and they treat it as such.
I was actually there this year (and many other years in the past) and I talked to many of the runners. No, the top runners do NOT treat CIF Section finals like a state meet. Stop making things up.
Ok I am done with letsrun and people lying on here such as yourself. I am not going to comment here anymore it's really upsetting to me when people lie like this. I competed at CIF Finals in 2011 and me and my team treated it very seriously as for all my competitors. It was my goal to podium in southern section and it felt special to me. I know for a fact those runners take that race very seriously
I have been watching southern section finals and state meet for 10 years now. The top runners have been running comparable times for the mt sac course and woodward park. A few may have peaked better for state and some have gotten worse. Anyways, I am tired of people trying to degrade efforts made my other regions
you can watch the interviews for CIF Finals. You can watch the races. The top teams said they were going all out. The individuals said they were going all out and were very proud. Turk was sick and Sadie was coming back from an injury (that is what i heard) and Rylee had a bad day. Being SS Finals chamopion is a dream to many teams and individuals in california. You lying pretending like they don't take it seriously is deeming to the efforts they put in that day.

In the D1 Southern section, all of the top teams and individuals have to go all out these days. The ML King scenario showed that, considering they didn’t even make state, and some people even considered them to be preseason favorites in the state. Ayala will be joining that section which will make it even harder to make state from
It’s also amazing how this thread went from a discussion about Hedengren (see title) to about the CIF southern section

No one trying to degrade your efforts. Only the absolute top teams and individuals can afford to cruise at Section finals, as they cannot risk not advancing.
The teams battling for the last qualifying spot and the remainder of the field chasing p bests are of course going all out.
A team like Newbury Park with ambitions to win NXN is not going to put in a max efforts to be Southern Section Champ. They will peak for State meet and NXN.

It's not just about going to state. It's about podium and placement at cif finals. It's a huge accomplishment top place top 10 and get a medal. It's a huge accomplishment to be the top 3 team, podium in your section and get a trophy for your team. It's not treated like a qualifer meet and never has been.

Newbury Park was the only team I know that cruised through CIF Finals. Nobody else does that because nobody had the talent like they had.

If I remember correctly, Great Oak did too, when Soles was there
Gee, maybe that record was soft? Or maybe different runners were affected by different injuries/training impacts.
Woodward park record was soft? She is the same runner with the same injury. It was Woodward park CR holder getting dropped by a minute(in bad conditions).
I think Hedengren could run 16:10, maybe faster at Woodward and 16:45, maybe (probably) faster at Balboa Park, so yes I say 16:30 at Woodward is (was) a little soft.

This thread isn't about average runners like you. It's about TOP runners, which you were not. Top runners are much more interested in state championships and national championships. For some reason you tried to change the topic and make it about you, but guess what? It's NOT about you. For TOP runners the section meet is a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
The USA girls teams should be really good in 2026 when it's held in Florida. Leachman, Ritzenhein, Ferebee, Sirois, Ruby Ihmels, and Sophia Rodriguez is a heck of a team if they are all age eligible. I'm not sure if Hedengren or Garces will be young enough to be on the 2026 team.
I don't think any of the USA girls will finish as high as 3rd like Fairchild did, but at least one of them should be able to finish better than the 10th place that Ellie Shea got.

Griffin Kushen, JR Lesher, Evan Noonan, Eyan Turk. Are they not considered top runners to you? They went hard at cif finals. The only runner I know of personally who went easy was Sadie engelhardt
