To me, this is just sad. Why go to all that effort for making an annoying video that adds absolutely nothing to the conversation? you’re at one of the most in-demand running events in the world, and you can’t even sit back for a minute and enjoy the experience?
Also, good to see NYRR actually enforcing rules, but how do they let those clowns on freaking rental e-bikes control the course for so long. I thought this event had top-notch security?
I don’t know Mr Choi. Is he NY based? If not, an NYRR ban isn’t all that big a deal.

I believe he’s Austin TX based, but, NYRR is clearly the top running organization in the country if not the world. So, he’s definitely going home ”Devastated.”
Good day for Elizabeth Clor as she moves up a notch on the influencer ladder. Probably celebrated by buying yet another outfit.
When I saw her, around mile 9, still well ahead of the masses, frantically weaving from side to side, I did not see joy on her face. I saw sadness. This year's performance was even more desperate than last year's. It's time for NYRR/Mastercard to end this pathetic spectacle.
Ridiculous that she got to start with the pros. This is also crappy behavior and crappy of NYRR. Pros are there to race, not wear a silly costume for attention. She needs to start with the masses and be like everyone else.
At this point I think the corporations are being duped into thinking she actually matters. That she actually has presence. How many of these influencers bought bots to follower them? Nobody knows who she is. You ask 10,000 people and nobody would have heard of her. I pointed her out to people who were watching at mile 13. Nobody heard of her.
Browsing through some other threads and there is talk of another Runna linked issue (seems more minor than Matt Choi) - one of their coaches, Anya, ran the race with a selfie stick and apparently this is banned according to NYRR regulations. Nowhere near as bad as e-bikes but what are people's thoughts on this? Should action be taken, or too minor?
For whatever it's worth, this comment was posted on the RunNYC Reddit:
"Was running next to Matt Choi and his boys on citi bikes I tried to pass one of them on the bike and he told me “watch out we’re shooting content” lol I told him off and to find me at the finish line. If you’re reading this , offer still stands send me your location I’ll come pay you a visit Matt Choi cameraman"
I had a similar experience at the 2023 Houston marathon, albeit without the vocal exchange of the above poster.
Choi and I both ran from Corral A, but I was a little deeper in the corral. I ended up finishing 6 minutes faster than Choi, so ultimately passed his crew. Myself and other runners had to slow as the cyclist was weaving left to right around Choi, presumably getting those side shots you see in his social posts. Ended up having to take a wide berth around to pass.
Since he was called out in Houston and major running media covered his Austin exploits, I am skeptical of the apology. The prior publicly did not stop him from bringing bikes on course at the Brooklyn half, Leadville, or NY marathon. A major trail running influencer wrote on threads yesterday that Choi did the same at Grindstone 100.

Regarding the QB bridge, RunNYC Reddit: "They sure did! I was with the 3hr paced group and at the very top they hoisted the bikes back over the concrete barrier between the lanes and almost hit a bunch of runners with the wheels."

I do wonder why Runna has escaped any form of punishment from this. Co-founder Ben knew exactly what was going on with Matt and did nothing. Only apologised when there was backlash. I've never seen a company handle things so poorly. If Matt got a DQ, so should Ben. Not to mention that Runna was responsible for another of their ambassadors (Anya) breaking the rules - running with a selfie stick which is banned according to the NYRR regulations. Already heard complaints of people getting a selfie stick in their face. Much less of a danger than an e-bike but NYRR sets rules for a reason. If you don't stick to them, own up and accept whatever comes your way.
Side note: anyone can log a complaint here:
I would love to see some action taken around running with a selfie stick. It has no place in marathon running. Besides for these things sticking out all over the place, people using them are not paying any attention to their surroundings - I myself was ran into by someone while they were using their selfie stick.
