Admittedly i am not the smartest hobby jogger in the room, but my 5k and 10k PR are both from the same HM race, where i then had to walk along the tables at 15k, then jog 2k before being able to reach again something close to goal pace. And that was my second HM, not even the first. So i actually claim having shown worse judgement than JI, and i didn't even get a national record in the process.
I watched the stream, it's not that he just completely dropped off the pace at the 10k mark. He completely stopped, hands on knees, out of breath, walked for like a minute, tried to go with the next group, then stopped again, walked etc. He was completely empty.
So probably in a 10k race this day he would have ran maybe 10 seconds faster. Which would be like 27:12-27:17.
I think it was a brilliant run,and he ran what he would be expected to run. He's a 1500/mile/3000/5000 runner,not a 10'000 runner. It showed he's human after all.

Broke Komen's storied 3k record not long ago. Olympic gold in the 5k this cycle. Seems like a great runner to me having a great year. Half marathon? I guarantee next time he'll be better prepared.

Josh Kerr ran a 61 on the road as a training run. Very startling to see Jakob so far behind.
Yes, hope Josh Kerr has cojones enough to attend the European cross country championship in december, and we can see who is behind!
The last time Jakob ran that, in 2022, he smoked Crippa, Katir, Kimeli, Emile Cairess and Schrub to name a few!
Crippa: 27:08 10K PR (27:10 10000m)
Katir: 27:19 10K PR (juiced)
Kimeli: 28:17 10K PR (27'22" 10000m)
Cairess: 27:44" 10K PR (27:34 10000m)
Schrub: 28:24 10K PR (27:47 10000m)
Of course they are basically the best Europe has to offer on 10K/10000 m so that's not Jakob's "fault" if he beated them relatively easily, but beating them means basically nothing in the context of being a great 10K runner, let it alone GOAT of distance running (the only two of them that qualified in such distance in Paris were Schrub who DNFed and Kimeli who finished 19th with 1.5 laps of distance from the winner...).Then yeah Kerr would probably not be able to beat any of them on 10K, but, while I generally speaking dislike him and don't consider him humble in the slighest, he never bragged about beating WRs in 10K/HM/Marathon...

His speciality event is the 50k walk. Then, behind some other events, there is the 1500m where he is just Olympic champion and the 4th fastest in history and where he has the best championship record of all athletes in the last 5 years.
The 5000m is a real weak one for him. OK, he is Olympic champion. Two time world champion. Has beaten all of those 12:35 - 12:45 runners (many of the fastest in history) regularly with relative ease. But still an realy weak event for him. Imagine, just imagine, what he will do in the 50k walk when he concentrates more on this event. Sub 3 hours will come - no doubt.

What I'm "told" here by those like you can always be assumed as wrong. Ingebrigtsen runs the event that "isn't his specialty event" more than any other. That must make him unique in the sport. Obviously, the 400 hurdles is his true event.

What were you saying about him being 4th? I fancy his chances in the walk. He's shown he has quite a talent for walking.
