Curious also. I wonder if this will count under World Athletics statistics, maybe not since the announcer said beforehand that false starts would just have the race re-run
You need at least 3 in the race for it to count. It should though.
For those who were sleeping, it is a pity one couldn't find any footage that didn't have a spoiler.
Diamond League coverage a mess now in Australia. It used to be on Kayo/Fox Sports until last year, then when Fox canned it, they showed it free on Wanda YouTube channel this year, then suddenly post OG it was only on Stan (a channel 9 streaming service) who covered the OG, but then this particular event wasn't on Stan, and only on Youtube again, with the actual live DL tomorrow morning and next week on Stan.
This is the kind of stuff Grand Slam track should be adding to it's meets
I got super downvoted for suggesting this when they announced GSL, but I said that if they're gonna have athletes do 2 races in 2 days, they should have the first day be athlete's main event, then the 2nd day make them do an off event. There are so many arguments about 'What could X athlete run in Y event' (what could Bolt run in the 800, what could Jakob run in the 400, what could Hocker run in the 200, what could SML do in an 800, what could Bekele run in the 400, etc). This would give people a reason to run those events while in great shape, and we'd be able to compare a whole range of PRs to their competitors. That's all without even mentioning how fun it would be to see the crazy matchups you'd never see anywhere else. Cole Hocker vs Noah Lyles at the 400mh would surely be one of the greatest races of all time.
I also think it would be the perfect time to test out weird events or gimmicks, like the elimination mile, steeple mile, 500m, 150m, staggered events based on prs, DMR/other relays, or any other fun ideas. I promise you if you manage to get a field like the one in Zurich to race an elimination mile, it'll be incredible to watch.
I like the idea of having the first day focused on serious, professional racing where the best in the world race against each other, and the 2nd day to something more fun. I think we saw today with Warholm and Duplantis that there were no stakes, no drama, their trash talk didn't have any heart in it, and it was still a great event that got 10 pages of messages here. There is something so fun, and so innately human about seeing someone with a different skillset than you and saying "I bet I can beat you in a race", and then racing to see who's best. I raced a couple baseball/lacrosse friends in HS across parking lots for that exact reason, and I'm sure most people can relate to that. We should lean into that aspect of our sport, because people can really relate to that, and it can't really be replicated in most other sports. Unless you had like the Chiefs vs the Lakers in a game of baseball or something.

He would do well until the 1500, where he would get absolutely destroyed
have you seen the decathletes? Most of them just chuck that in anyway, he'd be fine.
It's the throws that would screw him up.
I agree, 1500 would be fine. He obviously torches the PV and probably everything but the throws. I think he scores very high after about 18 months of training
I just ran some numbers, if he focused at it, I won't bet the over 9K points if he did a legit decathlon. If you can run 10.37 and are the GOAT of pole vault, I have to believe you can do a solid high and long jump. He isn't that big so I think his 1500m would be good as well.
I hope he does it
He jumped at least 23'5.5" in HS, which is about 850 points. I can't imagine that he'd be terrible at the 1500 compared to the other decathletes, but he'd have to put on a lot of muscle for the throws.
Not that much muscle, did you see the guy that won the gold medal this year. From Norway

I was coming here to post exactly this. I want to see the decathlon. Is it possible that the world's greatest athlete is a pole vaulter?
I actually thought he was the world’s greatest athlete before this race.
You're prediction was pretty amazing but DaveFrank beat you two it. He said Mondo at 10.38 on page 1. Do you have twitter? If you agree to tweet out a pic of your shirt, I may be super nice and send out two pairs. Winners, email me the shirt you want, the size and your address to
This is an embarrassment for the sport. You see the 400mH world record holder get rolled up by a pole vaulter. A guy with faster PR than Rai Benjamin just get rolled by a pole vaulter. Just makes the running seem like a joke. All this “big 3” in the hurdles and then just rolled up like carpet by a non runner.

Rai Benjamin would torch both of these guys. He's way better over the flat 400. Warholm has nice technique over the barriers. Plus, he's not at his peak this year and hasn't really been close to that sub-46 form since the injury he got in 2022.
I was impressed with Mondo's start - apparently he was practicing blocks with Kerley. Maybe Warholm is used to coming up earlier to get over the first hurdle?
