A bit confused as to why I haven’t seen this yet, but Ella Hagen committed to Colorado.

to put into perspective, Shane Conroy's 3200 was the 170th fastest US HS time last season. Corban's 4:14.85? it was 444th. That is not including international (European and Australian) prospects and it isnt including the overraged kenyans people on here are crying about. There were 443 Americans faster than Corban last year. Its no dig at him, but the fact of the matter is that the US HS scene is faster than its ever been before. 4:14 is not going to get you a scholarship at "big" programs and it probably is not going to put you into consideration unless you have a desirable resume or show that you can compete with relevant competition (state championship, top 10 at xc nationals, etc). For Corban's case, its probably in his best interest to take the full (or whatever money he was offered) to a very promising program in Lipscomb. This narrative that top schools are only signing pro kenyans and not taking a look at top americans needs to stop and the definition of "top american" needs to be adjusted to today's standards.

Schools who historically recruited foreign runners will continue to recruit foreign runners. Internationals in the NCAA have been a thing since the beginning of the sport. Your original post implied that "secondary D1 schools" are getting athletes that power4 schools no longer want because of them "getting athletes from around the world." You are implying "athletes from around the world" are taking away power4 opportunities from athletes who should be going to power 4 programs. your post is in response to the lipscomb post, implying they were kids who would be going to said programs.

I'm guessing that poster was comparing him to class of 2024 as well. He should only be comparing class of 2025 kids to class of 2025 and below.

4:14.85 is 195 for returners this year. my point still stands. The original Lipscomb poster never mentioned his 9:38 3200 either. & while coaches don't recruit purely off time, his XC placements against relevant competition isn't anything flashy and he didnt do anything crazy, from a competition standpoint, on the track. Im not trying to trash this guy but im trying to give you an understanding that whats considered a "good HS time" isnt the same as it was 7+ years ago.

You all realize there is a difference between “committing” and signing w a scholarship. My daughters friend was a preferred walk on w no $ and still announced her commitment to her friends and family on instagram. We have no idea what scholarship these kids have

Yes, totally see what you are saying. If you look at his 9:38 that was back in April before his 4:14, and 4:18 full mile at New Balance, and for his state, according to MileSplit he is the 6th returner. It also appears as if he does not get to run in the state tournament, I believe his school is not apart of the state association, meaning he does not get to run in any of the state tourney series. So he seems to be at a huge disadvantage in terms of getting to race people all the times like the others may. So, I think in this particular case, the 4:14 may hold more weight given his circumstances. But totally see what you're saying, times are not the same at all compared to what they were 7+ years ago and that makes sense.
