It never was attributed to what was being shown on tv. Its because of the fact that t&f is the highest participatory sport at the grass roots level. Some of those continued in college and fewer beyond. Typically, the hardcore fans are those that competed in college and beyond. Those that chose careers related and shared their passion with younger people. Those that looked anywhere they could to observe more from afar unless they could get there by their own resources to sit together with others who do the same including parents who support their own children in the sport. As a coach, I used recorded video, youtube etc to show the newbs what was possible from the past.
Realistically, you have to understand that the numbers for the sport arent going to grow much beyond that core group. People dont sit around and live vicariously through world class triple jumpers and hurdlers like they do football and basketball players who can purchase jerseys, be entertainded for 2hrs max and then look forward to next week. Maybe throw the ball around or shoot some hoops in the driveway. I am weird that I played track in the open lot with some friends as a kid. Threw round and flat rocks, vaulted across the canal etc...
Its up to YOU, the hardcore fans to teach young people about the sport. Not some screen or subscription. As Ive said many times before, I would much rather sit in the stadium any day than watch a broadcast from any platform to get the closest experience that the athletes have to UNDERSTAND what really haplened even if it meant sleeping in the car or tent and eating out of a cooler to save money.
What are you willing to do to get what you want in the experience or growing the sport? If not you, then who?
If you're that person, pay your fee, then share it with others and stop complaining about the sport not growing fans. Go out and coach some kids, build some relationships and help THEM pay it forward. Thats really the only chance to grow it.
You would be amazed at how big of a positive impact and contribution to the sport 1 person can make over 40 years as an athlete, coach, announcer and meet official.
who are the Morons that subscribe to flotrack anyway????
Me. And I was too lazy to fill in my part of the $2 plus million settlement for them selling my info to facebook
Sorry, I am sure you are not a Moron, however their content is horrible, announcers are complete garbage, and the stream is terrible at times. World wide T&F should not have allowed this as the real T&F fans are the ones who will suffer.

Just my experience: Content is good across several sports. Only noobs listen to the commentators (announcers are in-stadium). Stream is better than SEC Network and other ESPN+ properties, which constantly cut out and drop.
I was already paying the $150 for the premium subscription so I'm unaffected financially but I don't want to miss any broadcasts by Ato 'n' them. Can someone suggest a track and field TV and internet broadcast schedule? Ato called the Miramar meet but it came and went before I knew about it. As for this announcement, we all understand a lot went into these decisions but the basic concept of giving the public more access to the sport and athletes seems to have been ignored. This move is like challenging people to watch the sport.

I’ve been paying for channels on cable and satellite I never watched in 40 years. I hate the quality sometimes but it’s a way to watch kids in college and pros I’d never get to see otherwise. I don’t have the time to fly to all the meets I’d want to watch. I honestly don’t know what I pay a month for everything Netflix ESPN + 4 cable outlets. I’d guess about 400 a month.
and yes paying to watch the Stanford meet and having the commentator tell me in the college race 3 that everyone in that race would be happy if they ran 1.43 drives me nuts
I have been very pleased with the flotrack product. Give it a fair try and you may agree it is worth the money. Great decision by Diamond league. People will get over it when they see how much more coverage they will get with flotrack.
For any sport other than men’s football, the BBC remains by far the most desirable partner, the showcase to get their action and personalities under the noses of millions.
The way to make a real point about Flotrk acquiring the Diamond league is for LETSRUN.COM NOT to cover the meet at all. Send no writers, no reaction videos, no articles on the website. Just publish results and that is it.
If LR continues to cover the meets as in the past it will come as saying it agree with the FT coverage
If a US based fan doesn't want to pay $30/month ($150/year if bought as a lump sum) for a FloTrack subscription - what are the other options to watch the diamond league in 2025?
1) find a new job in Europe, or work remotely in Europe, and travel a bunch to spectate in person.
2) get a VPN subscription to make the internet think I'm in a different country + .... a paid BBC account?
