I am glad she went for it even though in hindsight pretty dumb. At least it lets her understand the gap and that she’s gonna have to work. She could have probably placed 7th-9th or something but I think seeing what it takes to be near the front might be more valuable for a young ish athlete.
I don't think it was dumb. This was the place to try and see how she stacked up. Everything this year is about Paris. This was lower stakes. There is so much on this board about how slow USA women are on the world stage. Maybe the only way to run with the big dogs is to try to actually run with the big dogs instead of playing it safe and running for 10th. After today I think she may be the USA's best hope at having a runner up in the front some day. She is not afraid of the Kenyans. She may not be as fast just yet, but she was not afraid to go out with them. I became a huge fan of hers today. That took guts.
That’s better than i expected she beat several athletes with better track pbs
I follow her on IG and she has been working really hard since nationals. She seems to be healthy and to have great momentum right now. So happy for her to be having success.
