Arop is definitely the favorite after that. He could have easily run 1:44 low and still made it look like a jog. He looks way sharper than anyone else did in these rounds.
We are starting to get angry and tired in this sweaty mixedzone. I don't get why press liasons act like it's their job to make sure so many athletes don't speak to us.
Peter Bol just got eliminated - why in the hell wouldn't he want to speak to us?
We did speak to a devastated Clayton Murphy. I thought for the first 700 he looked like vintage Murphy and wondered if he might win gold. Instead, his worlds experience is now over. He offered no excuses but at least gave us an interview. Class act.

The 800 is so weird, turnover like no other event. Who's still good that was good in Doha?
Arop, Ben, Hoppel
I agree the event generally doesn't make longevity near the top easy. You have to be so dialed in on the training, which is particularly hard to do in the 800, and if you grow to be more of a longer distance person, it's easy to drop off from being near top in the 800m (unless you have 1:41 talent and room to spare). The 400m is a bit more straight forward when it comes to training, and I think you can get away with not being as dialed in with the 1500m training to be near the top - easier for a 5k trained person with speed to step down or an 800m trained runner with strength to step up.
Only one Kenyan had failed to get out of the heats in the previous 8 World Championships, and two failed today. But paint it however you like.
BTW, both Kenyans who won seemed to think they were in the final not a heat. Hope they have something left.
You are seeing it from a hugely biased lens. Kipngetich won by a huge amount and was backing off. The race was quite slow, and he ran hard for 250 meters maybe. Wanyonyi looked pretty easy, he was in a faster, physical and messy heat. Most notably he got out better in the first 100 than usual which will be loom large for him.
Rotich got in via the Trials system, and occasionally that can cause a dud. Last year if not for drug testing requirements it might’ve been Elias Ngeny who would’ve been no slam dunk to advance either. Korir has been wildly out of shape due to injury and honestly almost making it out was a surprise to me.

Are you fvcking with all of us rojo???? You don't understand why an athlete who just got eliminated in a heat doesn't want to talk???? How stupid are you?
And if you blowjos and gault can't figure out why everyone is being steered away from you, then you completely lack any sense of self-awareness and are incapable of self-reflection.

Kipngetich too won Kenyan trials, WC heat in 2019. But to illustrate your point, this is the first year since he’s been as good.
