Wichita Trinity would have autoqualified for NXN if they had a 5th man. Good job to them for finishing in the top 10 though
If they had a 5th man faster than SPASH or Wayzatas 5th. In other words, if they had the FASTEST 5th man in the field. Both of the auto qualifiers were better through 4, let alone 5. Nonetheless, an impressive result for such a small school.
Thank you for pointing this out. I let it go assuming the poster was correct. But it appears that they would have had to have a 5th man about 80th in the race. Wayzata's was 132 so he would have had to be 52 places ahead of him. In other words, they needed a guy faster than the top runner for many teams in the championship race.
Individuals NXN qualifier boys predictions (in no particular order): - Clay Shively KS - Manny Putz WI - Robert Mechura MN - Sam Scott MN - Juan Gonzalez NE (beat Ethan Zuber at the Heartland classic)
Not really to me anyway, I tried to say how much the draft benefited him at state which was very smart on his part, Put him and Merrick in pack for awhile and outcome is different. 9:300 2 mile was fast. Could see by 2 mile mark Zuber was gassed. Both Zuber and Merrick are going to lay it out there when they race. Track is going to be exciting between those two. I feel those two are on the next level and it will make others put in the work for track and we could see some of the quickest races ever at drake and state. Not sure if Merrick or Zuber or and Dowling kids are doing footlocker or runninglane, I know Dowling and Cedarfalls has taking a team to running lane before.
For sure!!! And a chance for that sub 15!! We could see 3 get that sub 15 next year! Zuber, Merrick and with Ive’s as a coach I wouldn’t bet on Flori not getting it or real close. Maybe if Zuber or Merrick are doing one more race this it could happen this year.
Zuber dropped him with ease. I think he is done for the year. Where did you get the stat?
This didn't age well.
I could go back and quote a ton of post but way bother! There was also one that said Merrick is no Zuber which I guess could be right as it was opened ended comment that works either way. Either way we need the competition to keep Iowa xc and track going strong. Think the king of Iowa will be passing that crown sooner then everyone thought as looks like a few want it!
At end of Day if your from Iowa you should be cheering for all the top runners in the state! Iowa in my eyes is getting better and better. We can each have our favorite individual or team but give credit to all of them. Maybe one day Distance running in the US can be back on the map and could just be an Iowan that helps with that! It’s exciting knowing Zuber has two track seasons left and 1 xc and make has 3 track seasons and 2xc. Could see a lot of records being broken by both.

Merrickis a great rnner but has not yet hit the height of Zuber. Granter, he is a year younger so he may surpass him. But until he does, nobody knows. Zuber barely lost Heartland to a guy who qualified for NXN. Had Zuber run a similar effort at NXR, he would have hit sub 14:40.
How come he didn't? He was on perfect pacing through 2 miles. Within perfect striking distance of people that finished much faster then he did. Seems like he was not able to hang?

That was not perfect pacing for trying for your first sub 15, are you kidding me. And yes they couldn’t hang.

I was talking about the lad who said he was in shape for under a 14:40.
