Is there any evidence that Boling is a serious prospect to make a U.S. Trials final in any event? “Didn’t tie up terribly” and aging LJ PRs are weak sauce.
Well, he made the final in the 200 last year. I’d say that’s pretty good evidence.
Thanks for the FYI. I've run a few 800's in my time mate.
When I alluded to "even pace" I meant more in the sense of the entire race - not just the first 200m and I didn't for example mean that in a 2min 800m, the splits would be literally 30-30-30-30.
But for a 58.0 pace job (my guess for today), yes the splits for the pacer should have been 28.0/30.0 so Mu could have been 28.3/30.0 or something like that. Sorry for not explicitly spelling that out for you here.
26.5-31.8 is close to 5 seconds difference. It's horrendous and no wonder that field stayed well off it.
Whether it was pre-planned or due to the poor pacing, Mu cruised the middle 400. She can obviously front-run and go 1:57 if she wants, but she slowed considerably. Also probably worth noting there was some wind on the backstretch so I think that contributed to her not beginning her windup until 200 to go and merely lifting it slightly so nobody would go by. 200 splits: 27.74, 31.84, 30.53, 28.64 (14.55/14.09).
Hughes's last 50 was insane he just bounded past everyone that was crazy
"We havent started speed work yet" LETS GOOOO
awe and he just thanked like 20 people this guy is now my favorite in the 100
He's lying! He used to do speed work and couldn't crack 10.00 So he runs a 9.83 and hasn't done any speed work? Who is he fooling with that BS?
Lol if he’s telling the truth, then forget about the f’ing “speedwork”.
He has had this potential for a while imo. He was looking good when he false started that one year, whenever that was. And this is a legit time! I thought the track was running kind of slowly today, until he hit that time.
I predict Sydney will double at the Olympics and then retire. After watching the youtube video, I sense she does not seem to be enjoying the sport.
I could imagine her retiring after a 400H gold in 2024. She won't need any more accolades or records and certainly will not need the money. Major endorsement cash for years to come.
Coleman seems to be done. He will need to have another whereabouts failure if he wants to regain his throne...
Isn’t Coleman like top 10 in world lead, he’s won a couple of races. He had a bad start today. If he’s done, so is most of the elite 100m sprinters.
Based on times he is running he isn't standing out. Compare his 2019 season to this season. He is pretty much middle of the pack around 9.98/10.00 compared to times he used to run consistently before his ban.

In the Paris DL the pacer did 26.6-30.7 for a 57.3 first lap.
So the pacing for a fast time was available yesterday if anyone had wanted to go for it. But with Ajee seemingly not being quite right that was probably never going to happen.

As much as we give her and others a hammering for barely ever competing on the circuit it must be mentally tough to be expected to win every time and produce near world record performances whilst doing so. You need to be unbelievably resilient mentally to handle that all the time.
That is another reason why it is so impressive that Mondo Duplantis is so consistently outstanding.
Steiner had a strong finish and went right past Prandini in the last 100 meters.
Prandini -22.51… not very good time for her.
Steiner- 22.19… her best legal time this year, but its late June and she is still not close to getting under 22……… not injured, so guess shes just pacing herself for peak performance later? We’ll see if it works.

Mondo is a man while SML is a woman. You must always bear this in mind, I hope you know what I mean. Also long-term form for field and track these are two different things.
Jonathan Gault as an expert : ) : ) : ) for Dutch de Volkskrant (a nationwide circulation of about 250,000, for athletics they have more opinion type articles.)

Small note, every 200 had terrible reaction times from the whole field. Some time to cut there. Abby’s start (first 50) was pretty bleh, I’d say this was akin to Lyles’ race. She can get into the 21s with about .05 off reaction, a better first 50, and some warmer temps.
