Didn’t people cringe at this the way they did with gay people ~30 years ago? Why do the trends affect you and make you angry? This whole thing reminds me of how in elementary school we had this thing where the coolest and most athletically gifted kids in our grade - most of us at recess on the playground for kickball or bball wanted to pretend to be Ken Griffey Jr. or Michael Jordan - wore some type of clip-on earring on left ear only (this was 5th grade I think). -wearing earrings on the left ear only - this was the mid 90s - you wanted to be Griffey Jr or a superstar 90s athlete..and the rumor circulating the class was it was really really bad -like a crime-to wear one on the right ear only because it meant you were….[wait for it….] this thing called GAY which was really really BAD!!! (I do remember the kids, my fellow classmates, discussing that). I seem to remember the teacher telling us to cut it out discussing the earring thing and the meaning of the right ear only versus the left ear only…Then in the 2000s everyone in high school used the word “fag” about anything they didn’t like. e.g. “don’t do that. That’s so gay man.” Etc.
Yes, I do remember those times, and there were a lot of "slippery slope" arguments that were dismissed, out of hand, that are now coming to be.
Here we are, many years later, and we have biological males in women's sports and private spaces, and drag queens reading to our children. LGB, as it was called in my day, is now LGBTQ+ and probably some other letters I've forgotten. The movement has grown and expanded to include many things that would have been unthinkable back in the day.
What's next? Polyamory seems to be gaining traction, and next will be incest, etc. Why? Because there is no legal justification for prohibiting either of these things. It is simply "taboo" in our society, just as homosexuality and men in women's sports was previously taboo.
So excited to see what's next!
