If the 48 year old woman is someone I'm already married to and has stuck with me through thick and thin, of course I'm picking her. Every single time.
But if I'm 48, single, and capable of dating 19 year old women: what makes it any more likely that a 48 year old woman will give me "real love and companionship and faithfulness" than a 19 year old? Why is a relationship with a 48 year old woman *to whom I am not already married* inherently less transactional? If I'm not hot/charming/interesting as a 48 year old man, and my selling point is just that I'm rich, then that's still my same selling point to the either the 19 year old or the 48 year old.
I'm more trad than anyone here. The ideal relationship is to get married young to your first, to save your sexuality for that person alone, and to explore that sexuality mutually for exciting decades ahead. Most long-married guys here, if they're being honest, can attest to the existence of wife goggles: to some extent, you see your wife today as you saw her when you first began dating. It's very cool. The 48 year old you love still looks 22!
This approach works. The other approach is: sexual liberation, what matters is autonomy maximization and preference seeking, you're a chud if you're clinging to the antiquated notions of blahblahblah. THAT approach is not optimal, but if you're gonna go with it....go with it. One can't cheer on sexual liberation and drawn-out serial monogamy & soft rotational polygamy on the one hand and then, on the other, start berating someone for continuing to maximize his own autonomy just because options haven't dwindled. Pick a lane. The problem with sex-positive pop feminism (and that's all that exists anymore lol) is that it has no lane.
Great post. I def have wife goggles. While she's only 40, I'm pretty sure I had a mental 3some with 75 year old and 15 year old version of her. Everyone else is a steep downgrade.

My wife actually lived in Santa Monica for a year out of college. Her cousin is a talented working actress in LA. When I visited, all the other women were far inferior. Even when we visited 2 years ago visiting the malls and beaches, I thought the same. I'd like to think of myself as a super high functioning obsessive stalker who happens to have been with the person for 20 years. Those who don't know wouldn't understand.

I agree. Our culture’s reaction to people like Leonardo DiCaprio is pure hypocrisy. I think marriage is a vital social/religious institution that the vast majority of people should pursue, and it’s far better than ploughing through every available beautiful young woman. So i could criticize DiCaprio on those grounds (not that he would care).
But our culture has no grounds for criticizing DiCaprio, as the last sexual ethic the Western world is able to agree on is consent. Consent is a good rule to have, but it in no way represents a complete sexual ethic. But it is all we have left. DiCaprio’s dating strategy seems to meet that criteria. By our culture’s standards, he should be left alone.
Why the anger towards him then? The feminists and their male enablers will not admit it, but the real reason for their criticism is that DiCaprio is following a sex/dating strategy that maximizes his masculine prerogative, as a high status man, to bed an endless stream of beautiful young women. It reminds feminists that female hypergamy has not changed despite decades of feminist activism. It reminds them that beautiful, supposedly liberated women, want to submit to themselves to a high status man.
