Am I wrong for thinking his results at florida (other than Valby's success) are nothing special and he got this gig because of connections?
Most jobs at the level Solinsky is at are because of connections. If UO/Jerry did interview people for the job it was most likely a formality. Right or wrong that is just now getting a job works in this day and age.
If Valby was on Oregon this year they would have been 8th, and I think they return their top 3 plus others, and have some recruits coming in.
And if Valby was on Alabama this year they would have crushed everyone.
It will be interesting to see if Valby's decision where to run going forward has anything to do with that school's cross country team's chances of winning the NCAA championship. Maybe Valby cares about winning a national cross country championship, maybe she doesn't.

Here are all Florida's distance athletes from the track roster who had results for high school and college on their pages and showed improvement. I left off the others because there's no reason to embarrass them. Many of these athletes did improve a lot. The xc results, though, don't at first glance stand out, with a couple obvious exceptions.

Unfortunately Rojo didn't have time to dig into an actual news story about running because he was too busy posting about:
- A guy who had a fight with his wife about a Letsrun shirt.
- The soccer world cup teams in the final should refuse to do penalty kicks.
- US runners losing their "pro cards" for not running cross country.
It's not impossible. But I think that the 3 most likely options are that Valby will:
1. Follow her coach to Oregon.
2. Stay at Florida.
3. Transfer to OK State and train with fellow elliptical devotee Natalie Cook.
Stay where she is by far most likely. She's 90 mins from home.
Oregon is very doubtful.
I know she went to Florida originally because it was close to home. But that decision was made the fall of her senior year in high school.
She is now 3 years older, more mature, and may be more comfortable being farther away from her high school town.
Florida may have known about Solinsky leaving for a while and may already have a new coach lined up. Whether or not Valby likes the new coach will probably have a big impact on whether she stays or transfers.
