because if he refused the test then they would have sanctioned him for that. but he didn't realize he was glowing (with supps that do nothing for endurance athletes) so figured sure why not, no big deal done it dozens of times before.
Way to see our tax payer dollars going to keeping sport clean by testing still revenant athletes; I mean when was the date of his last elite level performance race?

Keep your head up Mr. Mead and keep your eyes focused on the next phase of your life and go build yourself a good ACT 2 career; sport has taught you how to work hard now you are just needing to transfer that skill a different arena. And lesson to others on the verge of retiring, but not yet “officially” retired RTP athletes; stay away from sketchy “pre workout” products until you actually “officially” retire or you to may have your once good name slandered under the burden of “strict liability.”
Curious to all you statisticians who is the “most tested least relevant” track and field athlete? Has anyone who is not ranked on the top 20 US in their respective event been tested more than 10 times in a year?

Jonathon Gault has a lengthy writeup on it now. Turns out he retired around May, and Nike support ended in June, and he left Eugene to move to Portland in Sept. and has a job in sales, but didn't submit his paperwork. He took a pre-workout drink before going to the gym.

I know it's not the majority of people, but some of you on this thread have some pretty wild takes.
1) Yes people who are not at their peak anymore can still dope. Being 'over the hill' doesn't mean you wouldn't intentionally dope or that you shouldn't be reprimanded for it. 2) Anyone saying 'there's no point really' is completely missing the point, and the wider implications about Nike, USATF, etc. 3) If he was 'basically retired since earlier this year' as someone commented, then he wouldn't have been taking banned substances to boost his performance 4) For all any of you know, while his track times were declining, he could have been in the process with toying with moving to the marathon. Pure speculation by me, but my point again is you don't know. 5) Doping is possibly just as rampant in sub-elite athletics because of the ease of access to certain things on the internet combined with never being in a testing pool. If Joe Bloggs running 2:20 Marathons is doping in his suburban home, still-sponsored pro athletes can be doping, regardless of what you think of their performances.
Thought about this some more:
- By not officially retiring in the correct way when he claimed he 'basically did', he's continued to sap money away from Nike (and potentially other athletes). If we believe him, then he was intentionally deceiving Nike by taking the additional payments (whether each Half or Quarterly), if we don't believe him then he was intentionally deceiving his peers and us.
- As someone pointed out, it is not simpler to keep updating your whereabouts, being present for the time slot every day, doing the tests etc vs. filling out a piece of paper. He was clearly leaving the door open for any potential tail-end of his career.
- By not coming out himself and addressing it, instead letting his friends come to his defence online is cowardly.
- It's maybe irrelevant but he's a 6.1+ guy who has been a distance runner his entire life. Does he want us to believe he's suddenly going to try and get jacked like some Ryan Hall 2.0?
- Anyone praising him for accepting the ban is misguided. Of course he was going to accept the ban. It means not being dragged into months of court cases/tribunials/meetings/press conferences, it's the easy way out when caught, it doesn't necessarily indicate any kind of moral decision making.

USADA told us in 2017 that ostarine can be found in many sports products, sometimes labelled, sometimes not:
"There are currently over 72 products on the High Risk List that contain ostarine. In 19 products, ostarine is not declared on the label."
According to my google lawyer, apparently it's legal to buy and sell, if they put a sticker on it like "Research" or "Not for human consumption". This is until it gets FDA approval.

Apparently his Nike contracted ended in July, after the World Championship, and hasn't run a step after the USA's.
